Same OAL to 1.975", so whichever groove is closest to that. Sorry, I don't have any 180 gr XTP data in my notebook; 1.975" OAL comes from Alliant. FWIW, I've 'generally' had better accuracy seating a bullet long. Regards, Ron

in reloading the 357 max/mag, is it better to seat bullet (horn. xtp) to the lowest crimping groove?
At the risk of being thought a smart ***, does anyone have access to and use loading manuals? If you look at Hornady's manual no. 9 page 792 and page 796 you'll see the COL listed for both the 357 Mag. (p. 792) and the 357 Max. (p 796). For the Mag they show COL as 1.590 and for the Max they show 1.890. So as has been said which ever crimping groove fits those lengths. Hornady doesn't show their loading data on line but the books are relatively cheap. Having several on hand will, generally, cover most of the bullets we are likely to use and are quicker to reference than getting answers on this or any other forum.
Rant over.

I always have in my guns, having worked up the loads using both crimp grooves. I've found the lower crimped rounds were a bit more accurate in mine.
