Just an update, since many of you gave me some good tips and helped me move my butt along. I finally took apart my 14-2 and cleaned her up really nicely, though the person before me did a wonderful job. No rust whatsoever and was fairly clean considering how many boxes of ammunition I had put through the gun since purchasing it.
Used the cylinder gauge sheet to set the gap and everything is working perfectly again. I actually cleaned it so well that the cylinder push latch (the bar in front of the cylinder you use to push casing outs, I forget the technical name) unscrewed a little. Wiped off some excess oil, but that's not a problem in the slightest for me. It just screws in by hand anyway.
So, moral of the story? Panicked owner of his first handgun ends up with a nice, sweet revolver. Hard to believe this thing was made in 1976-78 and looks this great. I just bought a R700 BDL-DM and it's barely twelve years old but has a small rust spot on the outside of the receiver. Dan Wessons were built to last for sure!
