I am new to revolvers in general. I recently aquired a DW .357 model 15 from my father. I followed the steps in the sticky to clean up the action. The guid e and pictures were a big help.

When I reassembled I must have made a mistake somewhere. The trigger stays to the rear when pulled. I can push it back forward and it will function again, but it does not return to the forawrd position on its own every time. The hand is also not engaging the cylinder correctly. I can pull the trigger and the cyclinder does not advance. I'm guessing the hand or the transfer bar are not installed correctly.

Any ideas on how to troubleshoot this? Thank you in advance for any advice.

I also noticed that if I shake the revolver I can hear a loose spring rattling around. Can the trigger return spring fall off of the trigger after the hammer falls?

You'll have to get back in there a see what happened, you said there were

pics in the guide. If your still stuck after that you might post a pic with cover

off so we can see what you got going on there.

If the cylinder isn't turning, it is your hand spring--either not installed properly, or it has broke in half.

The trigger return spring has to be installed behind the trigger pivot boss, and on top of the trigger behind the hand.

Sounds like you installed a spring wrong, but I'm sure it's an easy fix. As Blacktop said, take the cover back off & see if you can spot the error.

The hand spring was installed incorrectly preventing the cylinder from advancing. The trigger spring was also sliding off the "ledge" on the trigger. I shimmed put a small stainless steel shim on the trigger to prevent the spring from falling off. Everything now works fine. Thanks for the tips.

MTgrizz- Not so quick there, you still owe some pictures Laugh

Welcome aboard

I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman "Were is the Self Help Section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.

The hand should perform the shim function.

I went to the range this weekend to try everything out. There is still something wrong. The cylinder relvolves easily when empty but hangs up frequently when it is loaded.

This pistol has had problems with the trigger returning to the forward position before I took it apart to change the springs. It occasionaly would stay at the rear of the trigger guard until pushed forward. The small washer I put in fixed that. There must be some slack in the action somewhere. It's been to a gunsmith twice and he made it better but didnt fix it completely. I will post some pics as soon as I can.
