I noticed today on one of my 44 magnum Dans the gun seems to work fine in single and double action. I have shot the gun several times. I noticed though if you grab the cylinder try to turn it counter clockwise it will come unlocked and spin somewhat. I checked my other guns and 2 others seem to have the same problems. They will not lock into place and will spin backwards. Any thoughts on what's going on? Is it as simple as the arm that moves the cylinder is worn down and needs replaced? I have shot the 3 guns that this is going on with they all seem to shoot fine and lock up when the hammer is pulled back into a locked position in single action. Thanks!

So this is with the hammer down correct?
If so, it sounds like a bolt or bolt plunger/spring issue. The hand should not factor into this if the trigger isn't pulled or hammer cocked.

I can't get a large frame or supermag gun to rotate counter clockwise no matter what I do. With the hammer down and trigger released, the cylinder should be locked in place in both direction of rotation.
It sounds to me like a problem with the bolt or spring. Could be worn bolt, weak/damaged bolt plunger spring. I think it's time to drop the trigger group and see what's going on.

It's the Bolt Plunger Spring that we're talking about. It could be the bolt is worn but more than likely, a good cleaning will allow it to return fully into the cylinder cut. If not, then a new spring may be in order. If that doesn't work, possibly a new bolt.

Stan, you can get all the parts Ron mentioned on eBay pretty cheap. I did this with a 375vSM last winter because theccyl had a lot of slop when in locknup, really tightened it up.

I was going to go to Florida to get a hands-on lesson on my Large Frame disassembly. Then life got in the way.
Murray College on Oklahoma has week-long gunsmithing classes in June. But I doubt the instructors have Dan Wesson experience.
Maybe we all just need to meet @ the NRA Whittington Center this summer to exchange knowledge , shooting , and adult beverages?
Add a curriculum to cover two half days of class time. Elect an experienced member as an instructor, or invite Keith or Bob Collins to ride his motorcycle down from New York.....and we all cover their travel expenses to come teach what we're too scared to try alone.
just thinking out loud
