I have two Dan Wesson revolvers, a 14 fixed sight and a 15 adjustable.
The 14 is a PD trade in, and my problem is when I have the gun in full lockup, hammer down, trigger back, I can grasp the cylinder and without much force rotate the cylinder out of lockup to the left, getting the bolt to slip out of the bolt stop notch.
My 15 is pretty much in new condition, and it will also do this, although to a lesser extent, it takes more force to do it, and the hand will catch the cylinder. But , it is still able to be rotated out of lockup.
Either way, I am not using gorilla strength or "forcing" the cylinder, just using a little bit of firm pressure to get them to slip out of lockup. Using the same technique none of my S&W's will do this.
This does not seem normal, I thought the 14 was just worn out, but my hardly fired 15 also does it, then I started to question whether this was part of a "Dan Wesson quirk". How on Earth is this safe?!?

Common problem, even the SuperMags will do it. You are overcoming the spring pressure on the bolt. Either your bolt spring is getting weak, your cylinder grooves need a good cleaning, the internals need a good oiling, or a combination of all of the above.
I just grabbed a 15 -2 off the office desk that I just finished overhauling. No matter how hard I try (within reason), I can't move the cylinder.

I did a quick safe check on this, all but three passed with flying colors, no amount of force that could be applied by hand would move the cylinder.
One 15-2 took a fair amount of push, but would slip.
The 14-2 slipped moderately easily
The 722 would spin like a squaredancer.
As I think back on it, these three have never had a spring change or a complete detail cleaning.
I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman "Were is the Self Help Section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.

Thanks for all the replies, very helpful info. I got my hands on a NOS spring kit for the loosest of my DW's, as well as a new hand. Hopefully this tightens things up a little. I assume this slip off lockup problem doesn't render them unshootable, or does it?
Can't figure out how to put text in the same post as a pic, but this is my first Dan, a Model 15 I bought this summer in used but nearly new condition. I have since added a Behlert rear sight, great shooter! This one takes a fair amount of reasonable force to get it to slip, but apparently it's safe to shoot since I recently ran 100+ rounds through it the last time I had it to the range.
My fixed sight 4" Model 14 is all in pieces right now and isn't very photogenic, I am in the process of putting some fresh springs and a new hand in it. It's pretty beat looking but I collect PD trade in revolvers, and this is the first ex-PD Dan Wesson I have seen and the price was right at $250, I'll have to get a pic up when I get it all together!

For text and photo, simply type in tour text, then select your "insert/edit image" icon. After pasting in your photo link and sizing as needed, select the photo location, I always use middle. Then you can scroll to the bottom right of your photo, click and "Enter" then type more text if needed
