So I try it in the cylinder anyway…..no go !
Not sure if who ever reloaded this was figuring on using it in an Encore or what.
So I thought if I could file the tips down a little I might be able to use it.
I really don't think the big round nose looks good, but dose any one see any reason
why I could not shave down the SSP point and use it for paper punching ?

... I love it when i find that kind of stuff !!! If you only have a few of them, keep them for curiosity sake--if you have a ton of them, either pull the bullets, or get to work cutting them down. I think cutting them down will be a task, lead is hard to work with as it is so soft.

I imagine that's exactly what they were loaded for. Bullet length wouldn't matter much in a single shot.
I don't see why shooting the shortened bullets wouldn't work for paper punching. If you've only got 50 of them that are too long, 10 minutes on a grinder would remedy that. Your ginder wheel may be a mess after you're done, though.
I zapped your double post, BTW.

What you really ought to do, is just go buy a TC so you can shoot them as is.
Or you could screw the barrel out and back in after closing the cylinder just kidding of course.
Since that ammo was obviously loaded for a single shot of some type, there is no telling what the load combination is so I would proceed with caution. At a minimum after the first shot I would look real close for signs of excessive pressure. The ammo is probably fine but who knows what somebody may have done. Just be careful!

+1 to rwsem.
I would check to see what the OAL is and then match it to what OALs are for that caliber in a good reloading manual, if they are longer than the longest listed then I would shy away from shooting them. It would be a good indicator to whether the reloader knew what he was doing. Might also want to pull one apart and weigh the projectile to get more info when checking the manual.

Ok…so I finally found some time to touch off some of the shaved SSP rounds.
And yes I was squinting while the voice from xmas story rang "you'll shoot your
eye out" with the first one. But boy what an adrenaline rush leaping into
the unknown !
Not to worry, loads are very mild, at least compared to Reed's 357max.
I would guess close to 357mag. Anyway shot about 20, seemed accurate
enough, just not near as powerful as I expected. Going to keep a few and
see how they work on four legged varmits.
SMF: since you have the contender, do you want the big round nose ones ?
I shaved one down and really don't like the looks of it when done.
Their yours for free if you want them….
