I have a question as I only own two DW revolvers, both large frames.  On the 22LR version does it have a transfer bar or direct strike firing pin?

The reason I am asking is that I have a set of 22 CCM dies and was thinking of having another cylinder made in this caliber. The 22 CCM is a reloadable centerfire version of the 22 mag.

Also what is the lenght of the DW 22LR cylinder, if it is too short then I am done before I get out of the gate.

I was thinking about the S&W Model 53 when this idea popped in my head.

Thanks

David

The 22 and 722 uses the small frame DW, which is the same frame that the all calibers from .357 and down uses. I have no idea what the round you are talking about looks like, but I doubt its longer than a .357.

Soap Box, Ballot Box, Ammo Box

in that order.

The length of the cylinder would probably be adequate however the firing pin would not strike the center of the 22 CCM to set it off but rather the rim.

You could take a model 15-2 (357) and install a 22 cylinder and a 22 barrel.  In order to do that though you would have to have someone cut the correct threads into the 22 to match the 357 frame.  The threads used on the end of the barrel that mates to the frame is different for each caliber (44, 445 and 41, 414 excluded).

David:

Welcome in case I haven't said that before.  Jody has given you excellent info.  I would change just one thing:  you would want a 22 magnum cylinder rather than a 22 cylinder.  Jody knows his stuff and I'm sure that's what he meant.  I just don't like to leave any room for misinterpretation.

My appologies to Jody.

BTW, are you related to the author Ted Dekker?

Thanks for the info, I will take a harder look at what would be involved.

All right have a few more questions, is there a differents in the bore diameter of a 22LR and a 22Mag and if there is will a 22Mag barrel thread onto a 22LR frame?

Hope I worded that correctly.

Again thanks for your help.

I don't think there is a difference in the diameter of the two bullets. You would use a standard .22 DW barrel.

I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman "Were is the Self Help Section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.

The bore diameter is the same, well close.  It's the cartridge diameter and length that's different.  I believe the barrels are interchangeable, but not the cylinders.

Specs:

Cartridge     Bullet Diameter        Case Diameter     Rim Diameter   Length

22 LR          .223                       .225                   .275                .590

22 Magnum .224                       .240                   .291                1.052

Hope this helps.

Any Single-Six owner will tell you there is a difference... I've never seen a single six that will shoot 22lr  as accurate as 22 WMR.  Rumor has always been that the barrels are set up for the WMR load.
