I am working on making DWF grip medallions.  I get to play with a few cool toys at work.  Although a CNC lathe is not one of them.  My local machine shop is really backed up.  I was hoping to have a completed sample by now in stainless and blued steel.

A few guys here have helped me with ideas and info.  Thank you guys.

Here are a few screen shots of the design I have.  These will be made of a blued steel or stainless steel adapter with a laser cut steel and then painted DWF logo inserted into the center.  I'm still not sure how to bond them.  I won't know until I get the adapter samples.

I am not sure on the cost.  I haven't been able to get pricing for the adapters yet either.  I will be able to make the letter cutout in what would be scrap at work so no cost there.

The adapter is 9/16" in diameter.  The lettering is 0.048" thick.

Please let me know what you guys think and if there will be any interest.  If there isn't much interest in these I won't try to get any kind on volume discount from the machine shop on the adapters.

I don't have time to dial in the colors in the software but a stainless adapter with dark red lettering would look great on my 744 with rosewood grips.

First I have seen of these!  I do like them LB the grip man might be the custom one to seek out.  Although I am thinking they would be sweet with EWK BA's.   I like the Custom work so i would like a dozen of each.  that too would depend on pricing!

My 2cents for what it is worth!

I would be interested, but I am unsure how I would utilize them unless i ( we) can get LB to put them in some grips.

Soap Box, Ballot Box, Ammo Box

in that order.

They will be made to fit in place of a factory DW medallion.  I think LB offers prep for medallions.

I only have DWA grip medallions here for dimensions.  Can someone please verify that DW and DWA medallions are the same size?

Thanks,

Hosspower, those look great!Cool

Unless they're going to end up at $5 a piece, count me in for a dozen at least. As far as how to hold them in, I bet some epoxy would work great...maybe even silicone gasket maker.Laugh

Nice idea, the adapters can be used for other ideas as well.  I would be interested in a couple with logo.

Those look cool. All the medallions I have seen are the same size (9/16) except for the very early ones which are obviously much smaller. Yes I have prepped grips for medallions and usually they just push in, but epoxy would work if one just happened to be loose.

The medallion assembly will be a push in style to the grip.

The bonding I need to work on is the letters and ring to the adapter.

Red and White are perfect for an old Cavalry Soldier like me!  I'll be interested in a few...

I had to call in the help of EWK to this moving.  Thanks Eric.

I am close to having finished DWF medallions.  I need to to work on bonding options this week.

Hoss,  have you thought about using a resistance fit?  This way you just press the initials/ring into the base ring... or chill the insert to shrink it then drop it in and let the temperature equilibrate.

Thanks Sweeney.  I did think about that but my worry is that the point of the D, W or F could get snagged and bend right out.

I missed this whole Topic originally, this is a great project, with what looks to be excellent results. This is probably a stupid question (my specialty) but once the insert is in place, can the entire "void" be filled with clear acrylic?

I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman "Were is the Self Help Section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.
