How to fix a forward hammer issue. I believe that is what it is called when you squeeze the trigger and instead of the hammer flying hard toward the firing pin the hammer goes forward as you are letting the trigger go forward. You can feel a spring pushing the trigger forward as the hammer goes down. This is my favorite gun. It is a blued Palmer 6" Vented barrel.

I had replaced the springs with Wolff and did a trigger job quite a few years ago. The trigger is near perfection and breaks like glass at I'm sure less than 2lbs. The forward trigger issue only happens once every hundred rounds if that but that is worse than it used to be as it was much less often. This only happens shooting single action.

I will be grateful if someone could tell me what is causing this so I can fix it.  Thank you

Did you happen to tighten the grip hex screw by chance?

Maybe someone else will know.

I know it isn't the grip screw because I loosened it. I took it apart to see if I could see what was happening. Unfortunately I cannot figure out how the hand spring goes in exactly even after watching videos as the top arm of the spring doesn't go against anything and nothing pushes it forward. This is my favorite gun but I may fix it and sell it after I get it back up and running.

Very interesting. Is there a slot in the back of the hand for the end of the hand spring to fit into? I gather from your post that there is no slot. If that is the case, someone has put a model 11 or 12 hand in the gun. The first change Dan Wesson made to their new gun was to improve the hand and spring. The original hand had no slot and the hand spring wrapped around the hand in order to put pressure on it. The spring would rub against the sideplate and break. Before I tell you the solution please confirm that that is the situation.

Thank you for your help.

When I removed the side plate the hand and spring came out. There is a slot in the back of the hand. What I was missing is that the longer leg of the spring had to go through a hole in the transfer bar that I didn't notice until today. I was tired yesterday when I took it apart which was probably a bad idea. I got it all back together and working. I would still like to know what is causing forward pressure on the trigger as the hammer is falling forward. This causes the hammer to drop slowly as the hammer moves forward. This only happens when I sqeeze very gently. It is happening more often than ever before so I am concerned as this is my favorite gun.

I am concerned that maybe these parts were case hardened and when doing the trigger job I went all the way through the hardened area which in turned caused accelerated wear. It wouldn't surprise me as I did take a lot of meat off. I would just like to replace the part causing the forward hammer and start over. Thank you for any help.

Oboy, you committed the cardinal sin of DW tuning. You obviously are thinking Smith and Wesson. They are case hardened. Dans are MIM. They are heat treated but only the very outside of the hammer,  trigger , and strut are hardened. Never do anything except lightly polish the parts where they show signs of rubbing. A trigger job involves smoothing the inside of the frame and the sideplate. They hold the lockwork in place and create friction. Don't make them glassy smooth though. Please read the Average Joe Tuneup. Wolff reduced power springs are a big help. Especially the trigger return spring. The hammer with strut and trigger can be purchased on eBay. Also from Dan Wesson. Do not contact CZ . Go straight to Norwich. All parts are drop in except for the star and hand. Those are factory fitted. I have had great luck with used hands. Evidently they are all basically fitted the same. If you have a problem finding a replacement hammer and trigger PM me. I have a number of them  That are used but serviceable.

Thank you very much Ole Dog. I already put Wolff springs in years ago when I did the trigger job. I also smoothed the side plate, hammer and anything else that could cause any extra friction. The trigger is excellent in either single or double action but it looks like I am going to have to put in a new hammer and trigger which I have a feeling is going to suck.

Also thanks for the offer of the trigger and hammer. Used is fine. I will see if there is any issue finding the hammer and trigger on the net before I bother you.
