Hey guys ya gotta forgive me on this but I dont have a large frame {YET} , however I think I saw a post from LB the other day that said the large frames have round tangs. Am I right on this? Yes sir, my 741 has a round tang. I have heard some stories of guys drilling out a small frame grip (square) to fit a large frame (round).
You simply must get a large frame!

been wanting a .44 for a while just to compare to my mod 29 smitty. Maybe a even a max. funding is more an issue when teenagers still at home.. but I was looking at some different ones on ebay and I noticed some are saying large frame but some pics show square hole and I honestly didnt know if some were round and others just bigger square. Thanks for chiming in Bruce.

You know, originally I was going to buy a 744. After some friendly guidance from Steve and Ron (those 2 guys are always nice about helping me spend my money!), I ended up with a 741 V8. I'm glad I listened. The 741 is a joy to shoot. I was initially concerned about ammo availability, but then started reloading.

To answer your question: you are correct, round hole is large frame. Those sellers on ebay are not knowledgable about dans. Always check the pictures to make sure of what you are buying. In all fairness to the uninitiated, the "small frame" is almost as big as a 29 Smith and probably stronger. Some aftermarket grips are square holes drilled out as Bruce said. I think Hogue and Eagle have done that. On a small frame they don't usually fit to good.

Yes original stuff from DW will have square holes for the small frame, and round holes for the large or super-mag frames. So does that grip guy over on the right. He He. I believe Hogue has square holes for all sizes of their grips (the wooden ones) so if buying a Hogue off the internet you need to know which frame it was intended for as the hole won,t tell you. Hogue grips are quite nice by the way.
