The thread I started barrel nut stuck also has info the stuck pachy presentation grip

now, after cutting the grip off there remains part of the grip stuck to the mainspring grip housing, I will probably torch that off

my question is, comparing to one of my other DW 15 very different

hoping one of you DW guru’s can tell me what I have

thanks

capt Jack

Is that a sleeve pressed over the tang?  It looks like it has "shoulders" at the top of it.  Clean it up some more and give us another look at it.

I don't have a clue why the grip is stuck. Maybe melted on by heat? Glued? No clue how to get it off that you haven't tried but trying to melt it of could make it worse. My bonsai pruners could cut it off in no time. They cut through hard branches with ease. And fingers. Maybe a farrier's hoof trimmers would work.

Now, as far as the guns  cosmetic differences. The gun with the stuck grip is a very early 15-2. Aside from missing the barrel, lol, there are several changes made over the years. The early 15-2s had shrouds without interchangable front sights and no colored inserts. The 15-2 was introduces at Serial number 50,000 in late 1974. The interchangable front sights debuted not long after yours was made. The hammer tang was lengthened a bit later. You can readily see the difference between the two. The hammer where it strikes the transfer bar was narrowed too. I think the rear sight was lengthened too but I am not sure when. Not relevant on your two guns, the sideplate cylinder block and knurled hammer tang as on the 715 was changed in 1986 around serial number 365,000. One last change was moving the trigger reset screw from the back of the trigger to the frame behind the cylinder. That happened sporadically sometime after serial number 160,000 I think. They evidently made frames that were serialized in a random order. Are there other different ces I am overlooking?

Steve…good comment, must be some kind of sleeve…not sure how it’s attached if it is

it does have shoulders at the top….man this is strange

the grip screw is the same length as my other DW15 …it goes thru the sleeve and screws into the mainspring tang same as regular DW15

A couple pics to show

I think I figured it out. I have bought several Pachmyers lately represented as DW that were Thompson Contender grips. I got refunds. They have a huge screw with regular slot and seem to be longer. If you removed the screw it should pull off with enough force. I suspect it was jammed on.

If you search eBay for Thompson Contender Pachmyer grips you will see what I am talking about. Pretty sure that is the case.

It is more than stuck…it should have come off when I put the tie down ratchet strap on it….reason I decided to cut the grip off

and I thought the stuck barrel nut was difficult

i think I’m going backwards on this project

any suggestions…more than appreciated

no chance of that working in this case due to grip firmly attached to sleeve over gun tang

i contacted pachmyr, they wanted pics for the tech to review

It is not a DW Pachmyer. Jury rigged Thompson Contender grip. Tell Pachmyer that.
