I have just received a used Model 15 which I have cleaned thoroughly, at least as thoroughly as I can without disassembling the frame, which I do NOT feel competent to do even with good instructions. Is it OK to remove the grips and shoot the inside with Gunblaster, brake cleaner or something else to clean out what is probably hiding up in there?

If I do that, what would you shoot up in there afterwards to lube it and for rust prevention? I live in Houston where it is VERY humid and I don't like hidden rust.

Thanks.

Getting under the grip won't get you access to very much. If you don't want to do a lot of disassembly, you could lift off the sideplate and access virtually all of the internals without really taking anything apart. Aerosol CLP Breakfree will do a nice job of cleaning and you could follow up with the compressed "air" used for cleaning computer keyboards. Breakfree will lubricate as well as clean, I use MilTec lubricant for point lubrication as needed.

I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman "Were is the Self Help Section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.

I agree with Steve. Once you have the grip off, remove the two allen screws holding the side plate on & you'll be able to see most of the action right there. The 15's action is really quite simple, you may be surprised once you get a look at it. Wink

Great. I think I'll try to take the sideplate off and just blast it and then lube it without complete disassembly.
