Here's a 715 instruction book...

Remove your grip, unscrew the two allen screws holding the side plate on, lift the rear end of the side plate first, then remove. There's a half-moon shaped retainer (almost looks like a fat wire) holding the crane into the frame, pull that out with a pair of needlenose pliers, or a magnet. Swing the cylinder open & the assembly should slide out of the frame easily.
And if you keep going, your gun will soon look like this.

Funny you should mention that. When I put it back together, I got the cylinder bushing on the wrong side of the ejector spring...so when I opened the cylinder, the extractor star popped up by itself. Automatically ejecting brass...hmmm, good idea? Probably not, so I switched it back. LOL!

Wayuhne (LOL), the cylinder is stopped from sliding off by that little nub on the side plate. So I guess you could remove the side plate & slip the cylinder off the crane (leaving the crane in the frame)...but with the side plate off, all there is is one little retainer clip to pull out & the crane will slide off in your hand. So that last step is no biggie, overall.
BTW, this only pertains to the small frame guns, large frame DW's are a whole 'nuther ball game.

Machinegun
Swing out arm = Crane
The ejector rod threads into the extractor - so use something with a padded jaw (vise grip w/ duct tape, wood jawed vice, etc) to hold the ejector rod, then turn the cylinder counter clockwise to unthread the extractor.
As soon as it unthreads the cylnder and extractor will come & the spring will probably remain in the center of the cylinder. There is a small bushing that stick on the ejector that will make pulling it out of the crane a little sticky, but just "work it" and it'll come out.
Good luck.
