In recently bought an older 15-2 that doesn’t use the pork chop barrel. When cleaning it I noticed that when I push on the back of the cylinder it moves left to right slightly. Upon further inspection I found out the cylinder falls out of the crane when you take the side plate off. The ejector rod and the tube it sits in falls out with cylinder.
it looks like the crane had at one point has broken so they permanently installed the broken piece into the cylinder to get it to work again. Everything is in time when it cycles normally but there is definitely a slight bit more play in the cylinder than average.
Has anyone ever seen or fixed this? And my next question is would a new 715 crane and cylinder work with my model 15-2?
Thanks in advance.

I have not experienced your problem, but I can say that another cylinder and crane assembly should work just fine on your DW especially if you retain the original ejector and use it on the new cylinder: and probably will even with a new ejector. I have successfully swapped assemblies on 15-2s and a 22.

So would a modern model 715 crane and cylinder work? I just don’t want to waste money on parts if it’s not necessary.

Not sure what you mean by "modern". If you post a picture of your Dan, it would help. I may have some parts you can try, then if they work you can purchase them.
The sideplate has a nub on it behind the cylinder. It is called by DW a cylinder stop. It is NOT what S&W calls a cylinder stop. That is what DW calls a bolt. The purpose of the stop is to prevent the cylinder from sliding off the crane whan the cylinder is open. That nub can be broken off the sideplate on 15-2s built before 1986. 715s have a redesigned cylinder stop that doesn't break off when the ejector rod is pounded on to remove sticky cases. So, when you remove the sideplate the cylinder can slide off the cylinder bushing. I suspect there is nothing wrong with your cylinder.
A Dan Wesson shares the Wesson name with its older cousin but is mechanically very different. I suspect you are more familiar with S&Ws. When the gun is in lockup does the cylinder wiggle excessively? The front latch stops that from happening. End shake is the most important issue. Does the cylinder move forward and back when locked up. That is when you hold the hammer back while pulling the trigger and keeping it from returning. I am sure you know that. Dans don't have the bank vault lockup like a Colt. A little side to side movement is normal.

Would like to see pictures if possible? Are you saying this piece appears broken and permanently fixed?:
Yes exactly. The pics you circled along with pieces 26 and 27 in the photo are permanently inside the cylinder. I’m not home but will post pictures when I can.

So it appears that the upper crane leg is turning freely enough in the crane to take the place of the cylinder revolving around it. Seems bizarre, but it apparently works, sort of. A replacement crane and cylinder is needed. As to which vintage would work I couldn’t say for certain. Good luck with this one.

I have no experience with DW revolvers past the earliest 15-2’s, so I can only assume that any 15-2 crane/cylinder assembly would fit this revolver. Even a 715 should fit, and you would have a cool “pinto” 15-2!
I agree with this. If you can find a 15-2 (or 14-2) crane from the era of your gun build, it will likely work & fit fine. So would a 715 from your era of build. If your gun was built in the 80's for example, any crane from that era would likely interchange.
I doubt a crane from a CZ era 715 (which I read as your initial question) will fit & work properly.
