Hello All!
I am new to revolvers in general. I have a love for Smiths. I was given a High Standard Sentinel Mk II in .357. It was a "gift" (or curse) from the father-in-law. Since it is a family gun, getting rid of it is out. It's a fairly accurate revolver. It was horrid when I received it. No finish, pitting, stuffed in a bag and covered in grease. The story was that it was bought from a local Sheriff deputy in the small town where my wife grew up.
After some research, I discovered that DW made these. That's not bad, a DW made revolver for free. Anyways, I am still having trouble with it and thought I would run it by you guys and see what you think. I may not know the proper terms, so bear with me.
1) I am having issues with the extractor. It's really two problems. The first thing is hard extraction. The second thing is the "extractor bushing" keeps popping out. To me, it appears it should be staked in place maybe?? What keeps the bushing in place? What do you suppose the hard extraction is due to?
2) Light primer strikes. I only get them while shooting DA. I'd say 2-3 rounds / cylinder will get a light strike. I believe they always fire on the second try. The main spring has been replaced. This never happens in SA. The firing pin channel has been polished when I had it refinished. The firing pin appears to protrude the same with every pull of the trigger. It does appear to drop the hammer early in DA. At least, the hammer is not as far back when begins to fall as it is in SA.

Welcome to the site!!
I am not that familar with the pork chop modles as i am with the new models. Good to see you are giving the poor old thing a second chance to redeem itself. There was just a post about light strikes a few days ago that might help.

Check here for a good bunch of tips regarding light primer strikes...
This is the first time I've seen a cylinder bushing pop out like that. Looking at mine, it appears to have what looks like a small roll pin pressed in the hole just to the side of the bushing. Your hole appears to be much larger, so it may be that the pin has been removed for some reason. I'm sure a gunsmith could easily fix that, or you could try fitting a hardware store pin in it & see if that fixes it.

Thanks. It very well could be missing a roll pin there. It was disassembled and cleaned by a local smith. Reassemebled, shipped to Tuscon, and disassembled for refinsihing. Finally reassembled and shipped back to me. That's a lot of potential to lose something. I will take a look at the link.
ETA: After viewing the link, that could be the problem as well. My screw is tight right at 10 turns. I may take a couple threads off and see if that fixes it.
I was working the action with the side plate off to better understand the LPS. From what I can see, the hammer is falling in DA sooner than where it falls from in SA. I believe the strut (also called the DA lever) may be the culprit casusing a pre-mature drop of the hammer during DA operation.
Thoughts?

Da would be shorter fall, at leaest what i have read. (somewhere) . Is it with all ammo? try different brands some of mine like one type and not others. The roll pin is your fix on the extractor! I have a couple of these and a wonderful to shoot as well as the MK111 (adjustable sights) . Keep us posted. Nice o see somecareling for this ole HS.
Welcome and hope all of this helps out! What was done for a finish on this?
Another thought is GRIP SCREW, back it off a touch and see what happens, if it run in to far then it can effect hammer fall and trigger. if need be shorten it or washer it!
