My .44 Magnum powder of choice is Vihtavuori N110. It is really clean burning and the velocity with 240gr and 300gr bullets is very high.
However, on other boards I've seen people say not to use the loads in the VV manual, which I do. Their reasoning is that their loads seem much more aggresive than those in US manuals. While this is true, I'm sure it is because SAAMI lists .44 Magnum at 36k PSI max and C.I.P. (Europe's SAAMI equivalent) lists 40k PSI max. These loads have always looked safe in my guns but as strong as the DW is I wonder what they were proofed at? Being made here I'm sure they were proofed to SAAMI standards and I wonder if the gun is strong enough to continue taking the more powerful loads. Does anyone know what differences if any there were between the regular MOdel 44s and the Supermags?

The Dan Wesson design is pretty stout and durable, but it's unlikely you will ever find any specific data after this many years. It's pretty tough to break a DW, but common sense always needs to prevail.
I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman "Were is the Self Help Section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.

Although I can't attest to the DW manufacturing standards, I do know a bit about ammunition. There should be no issue w/ the DW firing a max load using a CIP proof round ** if you are careful! I would however measure and then periodically check for frame stretch, crane and cylinder wear, etc.. if all I were firing were max CIP rounds.
BLUF:- MPSM for the 44 mag is 38800 psi. The best way to ensure safety is to watch for signs of pressure.
The CIP ratings are REPORTEDLY equivalent to SAAMI's MPLM (Maximum Probable Lot Mean), and this difference in definitions for the pressure rating likely explains why the CIP numbers are generally a bit higher than SAAMI's. The CIP equivalent to SAAMI's MEV (Maximum Extreme Variation) is 15% over the rating (relative to MPLM, SAAMI's MEV is 17.7% over).
!! My research shows CIP is higher than SAAMI's MPSM (Maximum Probable Sample Mean).
CI is regulatory, SAAMI is voluntary. For instance- if I was were a manufacturer in the EU, it would be mandatory that I proof my firearm with a CIP proof round. In the USA, its voluntary w/ a SAAMI round. Although it is volunatary here, I'm certain the chances of litigation, should a catostrophic failure occur, warrant testing to above MPSM.
