Hello!
I tried searching for this but came up empty. I have a 44M model in relatively good condition. My only issue is the DA trigger (like everyone else :D).
However after a thorough cleaning I found the culprit. So I thought I'd ask the great tinkerers of this forum how you would solve it.
Basically the strut pivot pin was (still is) grinding against the side of the frame.
My solution albeit temporary would be to tape over that side of the strut with tape.
I'll try to upload a picture of the carnage.
Edit: holy bad word I managed to embed an image

And it may be original; the pin mics at .0775"
It occurred to me when I was checking that there may not be enough forward pressure on the strut, which is causing the pin to move.
Trying lengthening the spring a bit to see if that helps- and/or buy a new one.
You could use a roll pin instead of a solid pin.
You could put a bit of grease on the pin to help it stay put.
I think probably some movement is normal as they aren't in there real tight anyway- that little bit of wear isn't hurting anything and I don't think it would affect the DA pull, really. It's just creating a nook for rust to hide in.
Technically, the glass is always full; half liquid, half air....

So it took me long enough to get around to fixing it. I hate seeing posts about issues without a resolution. Or even worse a last post with "nevermind i fixed it" without an explanation of the fix.
The pictures don't do justice to the depth of the damage. It unfortunately caused quite a bit of grinding so using it in double action was horrible. What i eventually did was fill in the damage with plastic metal and stoned the surface smooth. I also used a bit of grease to keep the pin in place. So far it seems to be working. Had it out and it ran fine, in double action it is of course heavy. But not at all gritty anymore.
I doubt anyone else will have the same problem. But who knows, someone might stumble across this forum thread in a couple of years. Thank you all for your suggestions 🙂
