Okay, I have a 44-6HV, I load for 44magnum but most of my loading is done for a Ruger SBH with heavy loads so, basically I'm totally unfamiliar with the boundaries for a Dan Wesson.
I'll be loading hardcast 240gr.SWCs. I have Lilgun, 2400, 296 and AA-7 powders plus Unique. I've been using Winchester Large Pistol primers.
Anybody got any load suggestions with these powder or do I treat this like a Model 29?

While I am not a reloading expert, my understanding is that the DW Large Frame (your 44 6VH is a Large Frame) is safe up to the same level as the SBH in all respects. Please wait for more of our Members (Experts) to weight in for more definite confirmation on this, but Buffalo Bore specs DW as equivalent to the SBH for it's heavy loadings.
I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman "Were is the Self Help Section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.

I've only been reloading for a little over a year now, so I'm no expert either. The older I get, the less desire I have to get my jollies from running hot loads down range & possibly damaging my guns. I have found a comfortable load combo that I use in my SBH & DW .44, not too wimpy & not too hot.
I prefer jacketed bullets to lead, so I am currently using 240gr Berry's jacketed FP with 22gr IMR4227 & CCI 300 or 350 large pistol primers (whichever I have at the time). They go bang every time & leave big holes in things...which is about all I need.
If I feel the burning urge for more bang, I bring along the 'ol 7445...

I have Sierra's Infinity 5th Edition CD and it indicates the following with Sierra's 240 gr jacketed Hollow Core #8610
Lil-Gun max 22.8 gr at 1400 fps
2400 max is 21.3 gr at 1350 fps
296 max is 24.7 gr at 1400 fps
AA-7 max is 17 gr at 1250 fps
Unique max is 12.4 gr at 1250 fps
All using CCI-350 primers

Again, I'm no expert, but it sounds like Rich was sharing recommended max loads for that bullet. DW revolvers are very robust, and the DW 44 should be the equal of a SBH.

just some info on what I load and use. I started loading for the ruger years ago. found that hogedon h-110, with 23.5 grs., cci magnum primers 350, ww cases, with hornady 240 hpxtp bullets had the best group. A few years later I ended up duplicating the same load with IMR 4227, and found it to be just as good. As with all loading work up with caution and stop at any signs of pressure or discomfort. My opinion is that the DW's are as strong as the rugers. good shooting!
