Hi, I'm a new forum member. I just bought a new 357 magnum 715 pistol pack and want to reload for it. I'm hoping to get some detailed input for a load recipe.
My primary use for the gun is a competition of shooting 9" steel plates at 75' and shooting paper at that distance , offhand. My current gun reliably knocks these down with a load that gives a Power Factor (Velocity FPS X bullet Weight grains/1000) of 170 so that's the PF I want for a new load for the 715. I'll be shooting it with the 8" barrel. So must have for load is a PF of 170 and goal is very high accuracy. I realize that the 170 PF is on the low end for a 357 magnum but I wont be using the gun for hunting or defense so the higher "stopping power" potential of the caliber is not a factor, and I'd like to minimize unnecessary recoil.
I have had good luck with zero brand (http://www.rozedist.com/) jacketed bullets and Hodgdon Titegroup powder for other guns so am inclined to stick with these. I realize that Titegroup is a fast powder but my sense is that the traditional, slower powders are more applicable if trying to obtain the more powerful 357 loads.
I use a Dillon 650 with a powder check station.
So at this point I'm thinking of trying 5.1 grains of Titegroup with a 158 g Zero JHP, at 1.590 COL.
How does this sound?
Does anyone else have a 715 that they have a load recipe for that they are willing to share? If so can you please tell me what
- bullet brand, weight and shape
- powder type and weight
- Cartridge overall Length
- Did you chrono it?
How accurate is it? Able to comment on group size?
I'm particularly interested to know anything that would improve accuracy.
Thanks in advance for any input.
