I have data on the 8X57. My data is called 8X57 JS Mauser. Ken Waters is the author of "Pet Loads" and has written a 1000 page book with all of his articles in it. If you want, I'll scan the 8X57 tonight and send it as an e-mail or post as an image. This particular article is dated August 1996 so I would say it good data. I compare all my reloading reference books to Ken Waters Pet Loads before loading.
You have enough experience to know when someone says "it's more accurate…" Accuracy is a combination of the shooter, the gun tolerances and makeup, and the ammunition (i.e. the case, primer, type or powder and charge size and bullet sellected). So to that I say ullshit.

I have a lot a data for 8×57 JS, the best I have found is do a 8×57 load data on google and go to the listing by realguns.com. From what I understand the American market was full of Mausers after the war. As the 8×57 was not a popular cartridge in the states, most were converted to 30-06 some with the big bore power house in mind went 8mm-06, or know as the poor mans magnum. The 8×57 Ackley was born in the 60's for the reloader of that era. It did not have the power of the 8mm-06, but was within a 100 fps. It of course is a typical Ackley with the case lengthened and the neck shortened and a 40 degree shoulder. If you compare your data to realguns and if yours have some gains I would love to see it, and so would superdan and 788 as they owen at least a hundred of these rifles. The 8×57 as it self can stand on it owen to feet, I just run up a 200 grain Accubond load that will show the power of this great old cartridge. According to Chuck Hawks he crony a 325 WSM at 200 grain Accubond at 2850 fps (Factory Load) with a 24 inch barrel. I worked up the the 8×57 in my 28 inch barrel at just over 2900 fps. At that point the bolt started to get sticky on extraction. I backed it off 2 tenths at a time and bench it. I made a ragged hole at 2843, with no sticky bolt. The reason I am looking at Ackley is the little I have found looks like I can run this load and better with a lot less pressure. I really do not want to burn this gun up as it is my favorite rifle, and is the rifle I use in competition. It is the creation of superdan, 788 and I to make a target grade Mauser, she has shot a 1/4 inch group at 200 yards.[Image Can Not Be Found]

Thanks for the flower's. I take a lot of heat on this rifle as it is a Turk. The bore and chamber were in excellent condition, and she shot a pretty good group in military dress. So I said what the hey, lets see what we can do with a turk. I think everybody was surprised at the outcome of this project, as it has proven it self as a serious contender. When it come to the turk, If you can shoot it, she can do it.
