i did research and found data for 41 spl's with quite a velocity range. i started these @ 850fps. 210 gr horned XTP. relatively good accuracy but I know I can do better. my question is, are these too slow to stabilize this bullet. I swear some of the holes showed key holing. any advice? i've loaded some and picked up the speed a bit, but haven't been to the range to test them. just asking for opinions.

I am a big fan of the .41mag, I've never thought about loading Specials. I find that the faster I drive the 210 gn bullets the better the gun's accuracy. What is you reason for wanting the specials? Shooting mags won't hurt the gun in the least.

the local range i shoot at would rather not have mags shot on their OLD range. they will upgrade soon. trying to stay in business. i did pick up the speed and did see an improvement in accuracy. another range, much less convenient, allows anything.

I've only loaded .41 spl w cast lead so can't comment other than you should be ballpark. I try to push 200 grn cast in the 850-950 window and usually on the low end of that. Need to rework loads in the next few weeks for Titegroup so will see where I end up. BTW, for those who don't enjoy turning down brass I note that Starline had a good supply of properly headstamped 41 spl brass.

Here's a stability calculator. Of course if it looks like key-holing, it is, unless you had a ricochet . IMO (which is only good for me), stick with 41 mag brass and download. Use a COW filler if need be.
Technically, the glass is always full; half liquid, half air....

The .41 Mag cartridge can be loaded down to Special pressures, without the worry of buildup in the chambers.
