So I recently got a DW 40 (357 Max). I've never really shot it. The hammer pulls back fine but doesn't lock back unless you pull hard. Almost like the hammer isn't engaging the notch on the trigger. Double action seems fine. So I took is apart....holy cow! Someone has filed the heck out of the notch on the trigger and the tooth on the hammer. The hand has all kinds of grinding marks and so does the "transfer bar" piece. Strut spring was all mangled up and bent. I've done some searching and found a new hammer, trigger, and an internal parts set off eBay. The hand was used but I put it and the transfer bar in my gun, along with the new hammer and new trigger. All back together, it does the same thing. Have to pull really hard to get that click for the hammer to stay back and on two spots on the cylinder the hand slips by and doesn't rotate to next round. Ratchet teeth look fine on cylinder, not rounded, maybe try another hand? I'm ready to toss this thing and find another. Any thoughts?
Don't toss it, send it to me. I have never worked on a large frame but it's about time.
Does the hammer still do that with the grip off? If the grip screw is too tight or you need a washer on the grip screw it will keep the hammer from staying in Single action. The cylinder is another issue. You may need a new hand or star. Best to send it to Dan Wesson for repairs. Did you replace the hand spring? I would try that first. DO NOT DESPAIR. WE WLL HELP.

I'd send it to anyone who can fix it! I just called DW. Was transferred to the "revolver specialist" to ask if they still service them. No answer. I left a message, just have to see if they reply and see if they will fix it for me.
Bob Collins is their revolversmith. Shoot him an email Bob@cz-usa.com
He is VERY good at responding to emails. He must work really early as many times he'll respond to me between 5:45-6am.
He's worked on my 722, 715, and 744. Does great work.
