The information on Heffron's here seems to be:

1) One member had a good experience

2) Three members (one of them "in the business") have had  significant problems contacting/getting results from them

3) Heffron's continued to run Gun Broker "Auctions" for service work (there are currently three auctions running) during the illness problems

4) Three members (one of them "in the business") have had  significant problems contacting/getting results from them (repeat of #2 for emphasis)

For whatever I can't fix myself, with the help of the DWF Community, I can count on my local gunsmith (who has to look me in the eye when he hands it over) to make things right. For the folks who have had Heffron's work out for them, I'm glad.

FWIW, I'm not be likely have any personal experience on this guy to share.

Well this is actually pretty disappointing because I had a S&W 34 that I wanted some new springs put in since I'm having FTF's.  Guess I'll have to find someone else (or try it mayself).  I've never taken a Smith apart...

Thanks for the update guys!

UPDATE!

I have left countless messages and emails since the posting on HFC that he was back, all have gone unanswered. I too am becoming very irritated. He has had my gun for for over 6 weeks for a problem that he did not correct the first time I sent it to him. The deer season is soon approaching and I was counting on using this gun. I currently can not recommend HFC due to the lack of professionalism. It is sad because Mike's venture into the national arena has appeared to have failed. My original dealings with him were great. I believe he needs to do some major damage control, quick! If he thinks he can catch up by ignoring phone calls and emails, he is wrong! Talk to your clients and assure them things are being fixed.

Jody,

S&W's are not that hard. Get the Jerry Miculek video "Trigger Job", he takes the S&W completely apart and reassembles. I use this video as a refresher all the time. Get your self a Wolff spring Pack and you can play with different rebound slide springs to play with trigger pull weight.

I have an idea….

Does anyone live near:

HFC
1625 Windfall Avenue
Charles City, Iowa  50616

Maybe someone should visit Mike Heffron Revolver!!!  Bring a list of examples of people he is not dealing with correctly.  A stun gun might be helpful since he likes to play with 220 VAC power..

Guys,

Mike has my rifle for work . It was completed on 8/31/10. I paid for the work the next day via Paypal.

Currently as far as I know the rifle hasn't been shipped, I have no tracking number. I get no response to my phone calls or emails.

I know he has been having health problems but there is no excuse for lack of communication. According to info on his website he has employee's but they do no gun work. I doesn't take a gunsmith to ship a completed item or send an email.

Things are still not looking good. I called HFC and this time his voicemail box was full. That means there are a lot of unhappy people that aren't getting replies. I still haven't gotten a reply and I intend on never doing business the Heffron again no matter the excuse.

Finally today I ran out of patience and sent an email in which I laid out my issues and threatening legal action and setting a deadline for response. I got a call within hours. Mike was friendly and apologized profusely and didn't try to offload blame or squirm out of any responsibility. He has promised to make me happy within a couple of weeks. Frankly, at the moment it seems like a common problem of a small business owner who cannot delegate running into problems when events get beyond his own capacity. Anyway, I will keep everyone updated as events unfold.

Glad to hear that n.paperman, just I would suggest you stick to the deadline-in my case he kept saying he would send payment and never did. It may be different for customers rather than vendors, but still...

Guys,

Since I paid for my work via Paypal I opened a "Dispute Resolution" I quickly got a reply similar to Paperman. I'll have to agree with Paperman's analysis ( Frankly, at the moment it seems like a common problem of a small business owner who cannot delegate running into problems when events get beyond his own capacity.). We will have to see if he comes across and gets my rifle shipped promptly.

Based on this:

http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewItem.aspx?Item=194389059

Heffron's is soliciting DW work on GunBroker with a new "auction" starting on October 6, and evidently not resolving any of the existing and long standing problems noted here by several Members.

This has gone on long enough-Topic Title edited to add "Buyer Beware". This guy has had plenty of opportunities to make the problems right BEFORE soliciting for new business.

I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman "Were is the Self Help Section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.

Not by DWF. Anyone with work pending with this guy might want to try, but if the work did not originate from a GunBroker listing, GB really has no reason to react/respond.

UPDATE!!!

I spoke with Heffron on the phone Friday. He told me he has a massive shipment of guns going out FedEx/UPS that day. We said that he is spending the day calling and emailing people. He apologized and explained that this has definitely identified a major flaw in his business. Due to the chronic illness problems he has had; he was far too frequently in and out of the hospital to call or email. He said that he had just been released from the hospital with an external pacemaker due to the electric shock awhile back. I will post when I receive my gun, which should be in Monday or Tuesday. Like I said he acknowledges the flaw and I hope he makes changes in the future to resolve these.

I hope he gets things lined out.  I have enjoyed reading the post on his site about the modifications that he makes.  He was very regular with his post and you can see over the past month or so he has  not been so I feel this is all related to his run of bad luck with his health.

Hopefully in light of all this he will put some processes in place to get things back in order.  A small business owner needs to think about situations like this.

This is good news, but the proof is in the service!!!

I hope everything works out, I was planning on using his service on a couple of DWs.

This is not an ethical businessman. He would never get any work from me under any circumstances.

I have removed my "Buyer Beware" tag from the Topic Heading

Enough from me on this.

That's not cool!  He's not updated his site for a while and as Steve pointed out he's allowing his auctions to continue on GunBroker... Not Cool!
