WHAT A MESS!
I filnally got a hold of Heffron Thursday. I emailed and left a message telling him that I assume the gun is lost in transit and that unless I hear different from him that I would need to contact the New York State Police and report it missing. So, since he was the last person in possesion they more than likely would be contacting him to find out what happened. Originally I was told it was being shipped 10/8 and it hasn't arrived. Well it seems threats are the only way to get him to contact you. He called my phone and emialed within an hour. It appears that my gun did not go out for shipping on 10/8 because it was overlooked. Now I have a tracking number to prove that he indeed shipped it and it is in transit. What I can't believe is that for the past week I have been calling and emailing him telling him I don't have it yet and asking why. Only after making the threat of calling the police did he get up and bother to look to see if it had shipped. I would avoid HFC for some good time, because he is digging himself out of a hole that is still filling.

Guys,
I got my rifle a couple of weeks ago. I've had it to the range and am very pleased with the work.
I have another I would like worked on but it will be a while before I consider sending it. As bb shot said "I would avoid HFC for some good time, because he is digging himself out of a hole that is still filling". I'll check how things are going after the first of the year.

Thanks for the update, guys.
I'm saddened to hear of HFC's troubles & the resulting skid mark he has left on his name because of it. I do hope he is able to get things ironed out as quickly as possible & regain a good name for himself, because a good DW smith is a sad thing to lose.

Thanks, seems like he's still in business. I haven't seen any of his advertisements in GB for trigger action jobs. It appears he is expanding his skill to some other pistols. I still see some grumbling about weather and phone and internet lines not working, yah right.
Was wondering if anyone else recently, has used his services and what were the results?

This is interesting this thread resurfaced, as I just got a shocking update with my Heffron experience a couple days ago!
Guy bought a DW wrench from me off of Gunbroker. We were e-mailing back and forth and he asked if I knew where to get DW barrel nuts...he said he ordered a barrel wrench, and TWO barrel nuts from a GB seller in Charles City, Iowa and sent in a check. He never got anything. Said the seller responded one time saying the supply of nuts he got from DW had not been threaded. After that there was no response, and he gave up on the seller.
Now if you remember my story Heffron bought 2 barrel nuts from me off of GB and never paid for them...and I never sent them. Kind of interesting these two stories isn't it?

Hello Everyone.
This is Mike Heffron of Heffron Firearm Classics. I love your website here. Very informative and rewarding. I enjoy it greatly.
I wish for the opportunity to respond to some of the statements made on this thread. Not because I am denying, attacking or justifying, but I believe an explaination is in order for you and for me.
2010 was a helluva year. I am unsure as to why, but it seems that I got about 10 years worth of bad stuff out of the way in about 1 year. I don't mind being proactive, but geez!
I have been in business since 1989. I purchased the business from my Dad along with all of the tooling etc....(most of which has been replaced 2x over by now) The business remained part time until a few years ago when I went full time. This is all I do. It has been full time and then some. That's a good thing. However..... I genuinely overlooked a few things. I have built my business around me being invincible and a sidekick who is now 76 years old and now fully retired due to really bad health. A few things I would like to address:
-The advertising did continue because it was on an automatic renewal type of system. My wife attempted to disable it, but did not get it ALL undun. So who's fault is this? MINE! I should have had someone trained in case of something happening to me.
-Repairs did not continue as they should have because my assistant retired and I tried to pull a Ben Franklin with 220v. Again, I lacked the alternative plan should something like this happen.
-The same can be said for shipping. I had a system I understood and that my assistant understood. Nobody else did though. It has since been corrected and cross training has taken place. Should I decide to light myself up again, things can at least be shipped. Who's fault is this? MINE! I should have trained SOMEBODY to field this should I be absent.
-We have had MANY shipping problems due to weather. Shipments scheduled, then postponed due to snow and ice. It just happened again yesterday. We have had phone and email problems. Both are dependent on a cellular tower 2 1/2 miles away that took a hit when we had 40-60 mph winds after an ice storm. However, if I had the plan I have now, it wouldn't have been an issue because items would have ALREADY been shipped. Again, I take full responsibility.
-I am not unethical. I understand that there are some frustrated customers. I DO understand why. For that, I do apologize. I sincerely have NEVER done anything intentionally wrong to a customer, nor will I. Due to the nature of this business and the hobby it represents, I don't have just customers, I have friends. I wouldn't harm a single one of them or one of you.......on purpose. My lack of a "backup plan" should something happen to me made for a big mess for myself and many customers. I can assure you all, this has since been corrected. Call it the "School of Hard Knocks". I sincerely offer a heart-felt apology to those affected by this situation.
-Missing parts? Yup. Due to the timing involved concerning these part orders, it took this post to prompt my research. Sure enough, I found them. They will be going out asap. I sure as hell DO NOT charge people for nothing. They will receive their stuff. An honest but hurtful oversight on my part. For those who have not got their parts? If you are reading this please post when you have received your orders. This was an honest oversight, but the fault is my own due to no emergency plan within the business.
-Digging out of a hole? You damn right. Not only with guns, parts and shipments but with reputation. I was waaaaay proud of the reputation I had. I still have it with many, many customers, but the handful who got hurt really bothers me. At this point I can do nothing but apologize deeply for your inconveniece associated with my oversights. Regarding the shipping and backlog associated with "The Great Voltage Strike of 2010" that's corrected with the exception of the previously mentioned items that will be. There have been alternative plans put in place to PREVENT this from happening again. My wife is more active in the business regarding shipping and machine work. I also employ a machinist. All involved know the shipping and communication system now. I am however the only one that works on the guns. I have my own way of doing things. I do the gun work; period.
-I appreciate this forum. There may be some business people who would think "SH*T!!! Now everybody knows my flaws!!!" I genuinely see this as an opportunity for improvement. I see this as a way to address these issues. I want happy customers. I want quality product. I am 43 years old, in good health (now) and have MANY years behind me in this business AND many years ahead of me in this business. I strongly believe in continuous improvement. I can assure you, there has been immense improvement regarding "The Backup Plan" and product flow.
-If anyone has any questions, please feel free to contact me. I sincerely enjoy talking to the shooting public. This is my life both in business and in hobby. The phones are working. The email is working. This is a relatively new luxury, due to this issue being fixed only within the last few days. 641-330-9560 or email heffronfirearmclassics@live.com
-I sincerely thank you all for the opportunity to address these issues. I look forward to more communication on this wonderful forum!

It's an Open Forum, everyone may post their opinion and position, as long as it's done appropriately.
My opinion of this is pretty clear, it's now a matter of "Actions Speak Louder Than Words"
I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman "Were is the Self Help Section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.

At least his internet is working. I'm personally glad he finally addressed these issues, but I'm still weary about sending him a treasured firearm.
The part about a cell tower for internet access is puzzling to me. Isn't there any HIGH SPEED internet connections on the utility pole in front of his business? What about cable TV high speed internet?

I want to make it clear, I am in no way trying to "win anyone over". I am simply stating what happened. If you choose not to send a firearm here, that is certainly your choice. Nobody has ever "lost" a gun here, there were admittedly serious delays. I have simply stated honestly, openly and accurately WHAT happened that lead to these issues. After seeing so many guesses and theories, I felt I owed it to you and to myself.
The high speed internet issue? Anyone who wonders about hs internet issues in front of my business or cable connections has NO idea what rural NE Iowa is like. There is no cable where I live. We do have phone lines, which are horribly dated and incapable of supporting any high speed internet. I have even been told that the odds of there EVER being high speed hookups in my area are virtually zero. I have my high speed internet through Clearwave, which works through the cellular towers. Folks; I live out in the sticks, just the way I like it.
I have addressed these issues fully, accurately and honestly. I am not trying to tell anyone how they should feel, etc... I am just stating the facts. If you wish to debate my HS internet capabilities, etc.... I cannot control that. I am simply on here to let all of you who jumped in on this thread WHAT happened and what my role in it was.
I am now going to move on and enjoy other aspects of this quality website. Thank you for your time. -Mike

Hey Mike, Good to see you posting here, welcome!
As I mentioned in this thread, you ordered and have not yet paid for those barrel nuts…are you planning on doing that? It would be a great start to help make things right.
I would also be happy to provide the contact info of the guy that said that he ordered from the Charles City, IA gunbroker vendor and never received his nuts and wrench. Please send me a private message or e-mail.
Also, would you please address the following thread on the repair you did?
Thanks!

Mike, I'm glad you came here & gave us the story directly from you.
Life tends to throw us curve balls from time to time, been there plenty myself & I'm not going to fault you for yours. Running a business that relies so heavily on you being there, I can totally see how things could get quickly derailed & ruined, if something happened to you.
I haven't sent you a gun, so I'm sort of watching all this from the sidelines. Your post seems genuinely sincere & I'm willing to give you the benefit of the doubt while you get things flowing smoothly again, and I would hope that folks who have been caught up in this will too, before passing final judgement.
I wish you luck & I hope everyone involved who have posted here, will come out smiling in the end.
