After looking at rodekills good work on the reshaping of a target grip I became empowered to show you a couple I've done. First off all subjects were DOA victims and had no future. No decent grips were harmed in this excercise.
This one got a subtle change of shape plus bruises and crack repair.
Lots of shape changes here to remove gouges and chips.
Lastly this one kinda mimics the large frame grip on the small.
These reshapings all received a major thinning to become way more gripable.
Nice ,pretty target grips are tucked away while these are ready for the cruel, cruel world.

what did you refinish them with, a hand rubbed oil?

That really is about as simple as it gets. I sand smooth down to about 240 grit , sometimes 320(depends how lazy I feel) but that really does not make much difference. Then I flat submerge them in Watkins oil finish ( usually Natural light color) for about 10 minutes till they soak in about all thier gonna do. Wipe them off and leave them alone for a couple of days. Then they get a good rubbing(burnishing) with steel wool. One of the finer grades , what ever I got. Somtimes they then get a quick hand wipe with Watkins dark walnut to accent grain if it has any, and another day of drying. I then hit them a lick on a buffing wheel and call it quits.
After that there is no external finish to damage ,the finish is in the wood . A simple buffing will erase most minor scratches and such. Super easy and trouble free to maintain.
