UPDATE!
Well, got it back together and went to the range yesterday. Groupsize shrank a lot! Also. velocity went up. A load I use that was doing about 1235fps is now doing almost 1300fps, groupsize difference is day and night. Was doing about 3-1/2" at 25 yards, now it groups into less than 2".
Also, got to chrono some loads I'm working up with a 200 grain RNLFP. Results below with comments.
20 grains of 2400- (all loads used a Win.LP primer); Average velocity=1334fps, Standard Deviation was 23fps, no leading and groupsize was 2-1/2".
20.5 grains 2400- Average velocity=1345fps, Standard Deviation was 36fps, groupsize opened slightly to about 2-3/4".
21grains of 2400- Average velocity was 1360fps, Standard Deviation was 15fps. This was the most accurate load tested, groupsize for five rounds was 1-3/4", slight leading.
21.5grains of 2400- Average velocity was 1389fps, Standard deviation was 21fps. 2" groupsize, slight leading(These are pretty hardcast bullets).
22 grains of 2400- Average velocity was 1420fps, Standard Deviation was 30fps. This is getting there as a hunting load. Groupsize for five rounds was 2-1/2", slight leading and recoil was very tolorable. I think the larger velocity jump is probably due to more casefill making the powder burn more efficiently. Gonna load some Speer 200 grain JHPs with this load for further testing, should see about 1450fps.
Control load was 19.5 grains of 2400 with a 240grain hardcast Keith-Style SWC. Average velocity was 1285fps,Standard Deviation was 17fps. Groupsize for five rounds was 1-5/8" at 25 yards.
A word about these bullets, they are made by a local company called Vance and sold in boxes of 500. While the bullets are cast well they do vary as much as 2 grains from bullet to bullet.I went through and selected bullets weighing within .5 grains of each other. All loads were within about a grain and a half of each other regarding bullet-weight, heaviest was 201.7 and the lightest was 200.4 grains.
Temperature at testing was 50 degrees and about 30% humidity with a slightly overcast sky.
All rounds were loaded on a RCBS Rockchucker with Hornady New Dimension dies. Scale was a Pact Electronic Powder Dispenser/ Electronic Scale combo, calibrated before starting. A heavy Roll-Crimp was used.
All groups were shot from a Bench with a rolled Bathtowel for a rest.
