So using the great post/thread on the Average Joe tune-up. I finally decided to break a 15-2 down all the way. It was very scary for me, as I have never done any of this before. But the post was excellent and everything went fine with seemingly good results. Things I did a bit different:
I used the EWK small parts kit to replace as many springs as I could. The kit does not include the DW specific springs for the transfer bar and hammer.
I did not use an stones, but elected to use a dremel and a soft felt pad and light rouge. I did not do extensive polishing as per the OP. Places I did polish:
- The raised pivot points on the hammer and trigger.
- The raised areas on the hammer and trigger that touch the frame
- The two surfaces as indicated later down in the thread, basically on theback of the trigger and the small "little trigger looking part" as shown in the picture.
- Just a tad on the frame where the hammer rides.
- A very light polish on the hand that rubs on the sideplate.
Compared to my other three, including the one with a smith performed "trigger job", the gun feels buttery smooth to operate. I do not have any problem with it being "too slick" and not staying cocked or anything. The DA seems a bit lighter than stock, even though I did not put lighter springs in it.
Soap Box, Ballot Box, Ammo Box
in that order.
