A friend brought me a DW .44 mag made in Monson. It had several parts missing including the bolt (cylinder latch). The first bolt I received from Numrich was complete with the tiny spring and plunger but had been ground on and polished until it was unusable. I sent it back and the second bolt looked brand new but is missing the small spring and plunger. This is the first Dan Wesson I have fooled with and I was wondering what the function of the small plunger was on the bolt. Also it seems the bolt is going to have to fitted so it will go behind the bolt plunger. What places on the bolt usually need fitted?  I can't find much information online and thought this forum might be the best place to start. Thanks alot for any info.                                                            greer

Greer, welcome to the forum, I am not sure many guys here have experience fitting the bolt, but somebody may be along with some insight. If the revolver is in good enough condition to warrant some expense you may want to consider shipping it to the factory at Dan Wesson for the job, they still do repairs on revolvers. Or somebody there may be able to give you advice.

Not certain what you mean by plunger?  The cylinder latch only has a latch, spring, and allen screw.  If it needs fitting, use a jeweler's file and go slow until you get it to move freely in the slots, or... heed lonwolf's advice and send to the factory.  However, a competent smith should be able to fit it as well if you don't feel up to the task.

Thanks so much for the replies. I run a small gunsmith shop between school bus routes and have worked on several types of revolvers, just not a Dan Wesson. The function of the small parts in the bolt was hard for me to understand. I guess I'm going to have to call Numrich and see if I can get those parts. I thought I saw a plunger or ball bearing protruding from a hole in the first bolt but just didn't know what I was looking at. Hopefully I can find someone local that has one or find some detailed photos of the parts. I'll check out the manual that was mentioned. Thanks. greer

If you go to the Gun Digest website, you can download DW exploded diagram for $1.29.  http://www.gundigeststore.com/catalogsearch/result/?q=dan+wesson

Thanks Ron. All the diagrams that I have seen just show the bolt and don't list or show the small set screw and spring that go in it. I just need to get those small parts and then figure out how to fit the bolt.  I was looking at the new bolt I have and can't see any threads for a set screw, just a couple of smooth holes that intersect each other. I had thought on the first bolt I recieved that they had used a small roll pin to retain the spring and what I thought was a plunger or detent ball.

I'll probably make nothing on this job but at least I'll possibly learn something.

                                                                                                      Thanks again. greer
