I recently bought a nice Zebra wood grip for my 15-2.
When I installed it it appears to be about .03" too wide at the top where it cradles the gun.
Wondering if that is kosher, and is it still usable, ie is contact in that area very important? It is a beautiful grip and I'd shed a tear or two if I had to return it. Plus, I got a good price (maybe this is why?)
Welcome to the forum. I get to give an opinion first. The grip is held on very securely by the grip tang and allen screw. The gap is probably caused by drying and a little shrinking of the thin wood of that part of the grip. It is purely cosmetic IMHO and nothing to worry about if it is not cracking. I suspect the grip king ,LB, will chexk in soon with an expert opinion.
I have had and currently have some grips that fit like that. I personally have never had an issue as long as the grip is secure via grip screw, although being a 1/32 gap you may find dust/crud that may accumulate from time to time. But cleaning them is half the fun.
Wood is funny and will react due to temps, humidity and climate conditions. IMO.
If you holster it maybe keep an eye out how your holster fits that particular area so that there's not alot of pressure there maybe...But I think your ok.
There will be more that jump in that may be more of an expert than I, unless I'm missing something I be leave it's some what normal. IMO

When I modiefied my zebra wood grip to sit a little higher on the gun I had the same problem. I filled the gap with two part epoxy glue mixed with the wood dust that came from the same grip modification. Then I sanded down and applied spray varnish. It worked great. Although since you haven't messed with your grip you can color the glue with a drop of paint or go to a carpenter and get some wood dust.

There is a growth ring RIGHT@ the front corner of the mortise. I would want that supported.
I have not worked with zebra wood much, but I think it will not show much seasonal movement.
If I was keeping and fixing it, I would consider acraglass. Wax n bag the frame, though.
Edit: I just found the same gap on one of my factory grips. In addition, my two frames have two slightly different sized tangs - i will be keeping all grips unswapped. I will probably epoxy the gap, after I have carved the new grip.
Have you ever noticed that 3+5+7 is GREATER than 9+1+1 ? .
