Has anyone here ever used Trail Boss instead of the Bullseye 2.7-2.8 load with 148gr Wadcutters?.... I really love the "cleanliness" of TB and hope someone can suggest the proper 38spl/357 load.

TIA

I just bought my first can of Trail Boss and would be eager to hear some results as well.  I bought it to download the 500WE to shoot a few more times at one shooting.  It would be great to hear about some .38 loads as well.

SMF,

About the only thing I can find is from Hogdon: (I called them asking for something a bit more and the response was.... "NO, the only loads are the ones listed"

Trail Boss:

Starting load with 148gr wadcutter is 2.0

Max load       "           "         "         " 2.3  (fps 675)

I'm only looking for a target load so I hope this one will do the job or else I might have to switch powders for it.

That looks as though it will yield about the same result as the WW231 I've been using for years.  I am curious to see if it is much cleaner.  Thanks for the response.  If you have not used 231 before let me know.  My father and I have used 231 and Bullseye for thousands of rounds  of 148 wadcutters.

SMF,

The only powder I used was Unique until I picked up the Trail Boss.... I've reloaded a few 158gr SWC's and I was AMAZED at how CLEAN it is!  Hence my desire to continue w/ it for the wadcutter target load.  Bullseye would be my next try as I know it's been "THE" go to powder for WC's

Bearhands,  I will look at my tried loads and send you a PM with what we have used reliably for years.  I should be able to do this tonight.

Bearhands,

I was just in your area over the weekend I believe.  Northern PA had a Maple Syrup tour going on and we were visiting many of the producers.  Also stopped at Acklee's in Westfileld in search of any wayward Dan Wesson's.

Supermagfan, if you were at Ackley's then you were only 40 minutes from my house. Too bad I didn't know you were up this way or we could have had a cup of joe somewhere. Better yet hit a few more gunshops in the area.

Tigger,

I've been to Ackley's about ten times now.  We visit there every time we go north turkey hunting every November.  I'll remember that when we plan our trip this year!  Thanks for letting me know.
