Hello Members, Just got my first DW 357 VS-6. She is a beauty but there are problems. Whoever owned this gun first "buggered" the barrel nut. The gun did not come with a wrench so I will order a wrench and new barrel nut from EWK. I just hope the new wrench will get the nut off. 2nd problem, the sideplate screw that is hidden by the grips(the lower screw) is also screwd up. the screw at the top of the frame is fine. The allen wrench for the top screw works fine but the lower screw is also somewhat buggered. Can't get the wrench to catch. I don't think they are different sizes. Please Help I am desperate.
Thanks John

OK first soak the screw in penetrate for a day or so, might as well soak the barrel nut at the same time. Next be sure you have a quality Allen wrench and not made in China junk. Sometimes you can find a metric which is slightly larger and still fit the screw (sometimes). If that fails get the next size up wrench and file a slight taper on the wrench until it can be driven (lightly) into the screw. Do all these things carefully and with caution as if the screw rings off you will probably be off to the Smith. Good luck. and hope to hear of your sucess soon.

I would suggest soaking it in Kano Labs Kroil

Many gun shops carry it, and quite a few gun aficionado's like it as well.
It has been a godsend for those few really rusted on, and stuck on things that I have had to free up in my life.

I too have heard great things about Kroil. A lot of guys here recommend a mix of ATF and acetone. Just my two cents , some oils may be a little better than others but "most" work just fine. If WD-40 is what I had on the bench that is what I would use. And I do use it fairly regularly for lots of stuff.
