surprised

I feel like an idiot.  The other night I was reloading a bunch of .32 acp for my CZ 83.  Because I weigh every round I usually put a small amount of powder (in this case red dot) in a plastic container.  Once done, I return the remaining powder to the original container.

Somehow I mistakenly returned the red dot to the wrong can (bullseye).  I've been using the bullseye for my .38/.357 loads.  I know red dot is a bit slower then bullseye..... so of course my question is.... do I need to throw out the powder all together or is it safe to use the Bullseye with the small amount of red dot (probably a spoonful of red dot to a third of a can of Bullseye.)  I know that the general rule is never to mix powder.

What do you think?

surprised I feel your pain.  The simple answer is be safe and throw it out. $10.00 worth of powder is not worth the risk. Common sense says a spoonful in a 1/3 of a pound probably  wont make any noticeable difference. If the load ranges of red dot and bullseye are similar you should be OK. BUT it's still only about $10.00 worth of powder. Good luck with however you choose to proceed.

I would destroy the mixed powder.

I keep all powders on a shelf on the other side of the room.  I only bring one can of powder to the reloading bench at a time, fill the powder dispenser use what I need, then return it to the only container on the bench, then return it tothe shelf on the other side of the room.   I try to idiot proof myself.

Although duplex loading is relatively safe, it is most commonly done by stacking, and not mixing, powders.  Even though it seems a relatively small amount of red-dot, you have changed the property of the powder.  I would pour it into a pile, make a powder trail, and light it on fire.  This will do two things: one, get rid of the mixed powder and, two, let you have some fun.

Bad powder makes great fertilizer for the flowers...

I wouldn't chance it.

I have a spot for the 'Powder In Use' to go... or I probably would mess up.

I agree with rswem don't just dump it make a trail with it and light it. Show the kids how powder burns. You could blow up a couple of ant hills. At least you caught the problem in time. Take care. goodluck
