We sometimes have questions about polishing scratches, especially on stainless. While not exactly on point, this is some interesting stuff on the relative abrasiveness of ScotchBrite pads, and their uses.
I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman "Were is the Self Help Section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.

Great info Steve.
I always thought the grey pads were the least aggressive. Learn something new every day while I'm here. I even learn a couple things if I pay attention.
I use ScotchBrite when messing with these grips and need to find the gold stuff to knock off the sheen on my finishes a bit.
Thanks for posting that bit of very useful info.

Several of these same colors have application in my work, and I can attest to the fact that white is a pretty light duty item. Interesting how 3M has the same product in terms of composition, and configures it for such a wide range of applications

Guys,
I have also downloaded this file and added it to the DWF Archive. Here is a link to the Scotch-Brite Product Info Steve provided the link for above.
