OK, so I'm a member of many forums but frequent only three; DWF, Specialty Pistols, and Cast Boolits.  I got into powder coating recently (a few months) mostly as a novelty but it seems to work pretty well.  At least at the handgun velocities and distances I'm shooting at D<100 yds and V<1200fps.

Here is the link to the section on Coatings and Alternatives for Cast Boolits.  The process is relatively simple, otherwise I'd be out.  If the link requires a username/ password, you would be smart to register, particularly if you reload or cast your own.

Equipment: Plastic (#5) bowl, Airsoft BBs, Powder (Harbor Freight Red is a good start), Toaster Oven, Non-stick aluminum foil, flat tray, needle nose pliers.

Place Airsoft BBs about 2-3 layers deep in plastic bowl of choice- a Philadelphia cream cheese bowl works fine- should have a recycle triangle with a 5 in the center.

Add a tsp or two of powder, close lid and swirl in a circle for about 30 seconds.  I alternate cw and ccw...  this creates the static electricity for getting the powder to cling to the boolits.  I also have experimented with a nylon hose over the bowl and swirled on carpet for more friction.  Can't say it's any better but I remember one heck of a static shock after a high school prom.... I digress...

Remove boolits carefully with the pliers and place on tray covered with non stick aluminum foil.

Bake in toaster oven for 18-20 minutes at 400 degrees.  You can use the home oven, but do it when the MRS is away and light a candle... don't ask.

Remove, let cool for 5-10 minutes, repeat.  I've found 2 coats works well.

Load and shoot. DSC01335.JPGImage Enlarger

Technically, the glass is always full; half liquid, half air....

OK Ron. 1st you (and Steve and Andrew) convince me how easy it is to reload. Now you are weaving your evil spell once again and convincing me how easy it would be to powder coat. mad

You Sir, an evil genius!worshipwow

To the paranoid people who check behind shower curtains for murderers:

if you find one...what's your plan?

Thanks Ron, the link works with no password. I'll spend a little time trying to learn something.

This is awesome.   I have been reloading for a while and looking casting this winter with the lack 180gr 357 bullets for my max available.   Powder coating looks like a great option.
