Anyone ever use these? The local Cabela's has:

.45 230 gr RN 500 for $79.99

.38 158 gr FP 500 for $63.99

These are jacketed (plated) and struck me as a pretty good price

I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman "Were is the Self Help Section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.

I have not used any of their products yet, but will be very interested to see what responses come from this question.

I have just discovered (while cruising the reloading aisle at Cabela's) a similar type bullet manufacturer, Berry's Bullets. Another shopper spoke very highly of their bullets, he has reloaded extensively with them in .40 S&W,.45 ACP, and some in 9 mm.

These are swaged lead bullets that are then copper electroplated, and sell for very attractive prices. I'm thinking that these are a great place for the newbie reloader (uh, me) to start. If I can get 125 gr .38 jacketed Flat Points for $.10, I need to give them a try.

I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman "Were is the Self Help Section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.

I have and continue to use both Ranier and Berrys bullets.  Since they are swaged bullets they are softer than jacketed bullets so you cannot drive them to the higher pressure and velocity as jacketed bullets.  I find that they are perfect for semi autos like 45 ACP, 9 MM luger, 40 S&W etc.  I also use many of them for mid range loaded revolver rounds say 38 special +P and 357 Mags around 1200-1300 fps.  I loaded some 200 grain SWC a little too fast in my 45 Win Mag and when I pulled my target back and examined the holes in the paper target each hole had 6 little radial lines from each hole where the lands in the barrel had cased the copper to seperate from the lead in flight and the bullet rotation caused them to stick out.  I reduced the velocity to the before mentioned 1200-1300 fps range and it never did that again.  In my expereince the Ranier seems just slightly more accurate but to tell the difference you will need a very accurate benchrested gun. wink

Thanks, I was thinking just about the same, especially on backing down velocity in .357

I use a lot of Rainer for the 40S&W.  No issues with them; a great value for plinking/ target practice.

Technically, the glass is always full; half liquid, half air....
