My porkchop has some bluing problems in one area near the grip, it has a red tint to it almost a washed out look, the pistol is dark almost black and i want to reblue it and maybe add a new grip from LB if and when he opens for new orders. Ok after beating around the bush what I want to know are the home re-bluing kits you see offered worth dealing with?

Depending on your value of the gun and your capabilities, I would steer clear of the home bluing kits unless you're OK with it turning out just 'OK'. If you want a deep, beautiful blue that is almost black, have a pro do it.

I've had great success with Oxpho Blue.  Easiest DIY product made IMO.  for about 10 bucks, it can turn out better than OK if you want to use a bit of 000 steel wool and have some patience.

I have used Oxpho on small, warmed parts, and 2 applications looked very nice.
One thing not mentioned here yet relates to prep work.
A highly polished, grease-free surface is as important to getting pro looking results as the bluing is.
Having said that, a hot dip blue, using the proper water-displacing oils afterwards is tough to beat.

Have you ever noticed that 3+5+7 is GREATER than 9+1+1 ?                 .

I  agree  Oxpho Blue from Brownells is the best... just my 2 cents
