All:
After coming to the conclusion that getting a Dan Wesson 414 Supermag may be a pipe dream, I think I came up with a nutty idea that bears some thought (before putting it away in the den of dopey ideas). But here goes: I have looked upon with some fascination, the hybrid Jim Cirillo revolvers which uses Dan Wesson barrels with Smith and Wesson Frames (revolvers I like to characterize as "Wesson and Wessons.").
Pluses:
Quite frankly, getting a 460/500 used revolver wouldn't be a problem. I suspect they would be hundreds more in production than the total output of the 414's produced by DW.
Dan Wesson 414 barrels and shrouds are still available from CZDW, if memory serves as correct.
The X frame uses a similar shroud/barrel combo similar to the Dan Wesson.
Minuses:
Who can make the cylinder replacement? I haven't seen a supplier for custom double action cylinders for the Smiths.
Unknowns (at least, to me):
I think sleeving an S&W cylinder is an option but at first blush, the metal might be too think to replace on a 460. A 500 might be a little friendlier but unknown.
Difficulty in removing the old barrel and sleeve from the Smiths.
Your thoughts on this pipe dream. Thanks! DW41F.

I would definitely not sleeve the cylinder. Maybe for a small caliber, but not for a caliber with this much bang. There are a few gunsmiths who make custom cylinders, two that come to mind are Gary Reeder and Hamilton Bowen.

You could maybe spend a little less and try the approach that I took for a fine SA revolver from Gary Reeder. You need a donor Ruger 357 Max revolver and send it to Gary for a conversion:
This is a 414 Supermag in the black Chromex finish

Bringing this old topic up, wouldn't it be easier to find a DW SuperMag in say 357 Max or 445 and just get a 414 barrel tube and cylinder from CZ/DW and mount them in the super mag frame? Not cheap I'm sure but if you just had to have a 414 would this be a solution?
