got a .41 that I purchased used. with light loads, it tends to fail to advance to the next cylinder. checked cyl gap, end play, and everything looked good. took it to local smith acquainted w/Dans. He looked it over, just lightly smoothed things up, and closed it up. I go to pick it up, go out back of the shop, he runs the 6 rounds thru it with no lock up. runs fine. I take it to local range and get the same lock up. check grip screw and all. I changed nothing after the smith shot it. this is really annoying. anyone have any suggestions? it runs great empty, naturally. put empty casings in it and it runs great. only locks up when I shoot.

Sounds like the barrel to cylinder gap is too tight, causing binding between the forcing cone and the cylinder face. When the gun gets warm, that gap will shrink and cause rubbing if too tight. Set gapat .006 . Also, are the loaded rounds protrur from the front of the cylinder?

You were typing as I was. I was going to ask you if the case heads were rubbing in the recoil shield. A primer that isnt fully seated will cause drag like you had, glad you found it.

I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman "Were is the Self Help Section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.

I'm 70 and have been reloading for 50 years. I still learn something new almost every day.
