My girlfriend made a trip to Calif. recently and I asked her to bring me back a piece of Red Wood for a grip project. She did and picked a perfect piece. It started out about 12" x 10" x 8". I cut it down to get rid of what I thought were imperfections, holes, and cracks, then sent the remainder to LB for him to work his magic. Boy did he ever. What follows is a small frame finger grip and boy is it nice, IMHO! wink

Thanks LB for a fantastic set of grips. I'm looking for some more wood to send your way!

Thanks guys, Ya'll are too much!  All you do is grab a hunk O wood and whittle away every thing that dosen't look like a grip.  wink    Seriously the family here at the DWF is what makes it happen. The cool woods, creative ideas and designs come from ya'll, I just hack the wood.

To borrow Steve's phrase, Its still fun!

Is that Redwood like from the Giant Redwood trees?  If so that is really unique. The wood could be 2000 y/o. Anyway it is really beautiful. L.B. did another awesome job.

Yes, the wood came from Calif. at a shop in the park where the giant red wood trees are located. I never thought about the possible age of the wood. The store sells items made from red wood and chunks of "scrap" wood discarded for sale. I guess it is pretty unique.

Not to hijack, but LB, can you make a grip out of fruit wood like Apple or Plum?  I have some from trees I removed from my farm.  The plum has a very unique two tone appearance.

Anything worth doing is worth doing well.

Any wood will work if it is dry (not green) and of suitable size and dense enough. Apple or Plum "should" be fine.

I did a little searching a while back on gun-stock wood and read multiple times

apple was used quite a bit back in the day. Especially from the trunk was great

for figure. Also read never to use wood from the branch but I think that

includes most woods.

I got no info on plum .
