Good Morning,
Here is the third installment of the Reloading Roundtable, Equipment Basics.
This edition answers the following questions:
1) So what’s the deal with all the different types of presses?
2) What are the different kinds of dies all about? Do
they need special care?
3) I know there are different ways to measure powder…..
4) Please tell me about reloading manuals.
5) How many (and which) manuals do you use regularly? How
many manuals do you have?
6) Out of all those manuals, pick the one that is your
essential, “must have” manual.
7) I am a Beginner Reloader. Please pick a “Bundled Kit”
for me to get started with.
8) What should I add to the Kit you recommended to get me
off to a good start?
9) What else should I know
about reloading equipment, and its proper use?
Thanks to all that contributed!

I am but the vessel that conveys the Wisdom of DWF!
Thanks guys, you make it happen.
I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman "Were is the Self Help Section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.

I'm really interested in the process of how to work up a load. Don't want to turn it into a discussion of specific loads, more the process of how does one go about creating a load for a specific purpose, such as a .44 load for IHMSA field pistol (which I'm trying to do). Questions such as how to pick a starting load, what the variables are and how to tweak them, how to make comparisons between different loads etc.

The next installment will include info on how and why to select a particular bullet/powder combination based on the characteristics of the case volume, bullet weight, and burn characteristics of the powder. Eventually we will also get into more specifics on how to work with a basic load and tweak it for best performance.
Good question, I'll make sure we include that process in a future installment.

Just finished reading the Reloading Roundtables saga.
One question for Mike/Shootist 357: In RR II you said that the best hand priming tool is the RCBS hand primer. Is this the same one that comes with the Rockchucker Supreme starter kit?
One comment: I thought the in-depth explanations were great, specially the ones on "seating" and "crimping." Most articles on reloading assume that everyone knows the basics. Keep up the good work!

Actually, Part 5 is in the hands of the Experts right now. It will focus on the more specialized equipment used to get top level results, AND our experts get to spend some "DWF Virtual Dollars" to build some high quality dream starter systems. Should be fun!
