HEY...a Buddy of mine that is a Physicist , teacher , machinist, pilot, small plane builder and owner, and a general jack of all trades and an honest to goodness know-it-all sent me this.. I thought some of you may find it of interest ..

"FYI
Found on Smokstak - antique tractor and engine web site:Machinist's Workshop magazine actually tested penetrates for break out torque on rusted nuts. Significant results! They are below, as forwarded by a professional machinist, Bud Baker. They arranged a subjective test of all the popular penetrants with the control being the torque required to remove the nut from a "scientifically rusted" environment.
*Penetrating oil ..... Average load*
None ..................... 516 pounds
WD-40.................. 238 pounds
PB Blaster ............. 214 pounds
Liquid Wrench ...... 127 pounds
Kano Kroil ............ 106 pounds
ATF-Acetone mix.....53 pounds
The ATF-Acetone mix was a "home brew" mix of 50 - 50 automatic
transmission fluid and acetone. Note the "home brew" was better than
any commercial product in this one particular test. Our local machinist
group mixed up a batch and we all now use it with equally good results.
Note also that "Liquid Wrench" is about as good as "Kroil" for about
20% of the price"

Meh, I knew that about WD40 years ago...about the best thing it's good for is dispersing water from the inside of your distributor cap when you clean the engine at a car wash.
The rest of that comparison is pretty interesting, though. I'm actually surprised PB Blaster doesn't rate closer to Liquid Wrench, because I've found them really similar, myself. I may have to try that acetone & ATF mix, I've got a bunch of both.

I think someone's funnin me here.
One of the guns I bought has the barrel nut stuck on the end of the barrel. So I decided to try to soak it in a 50-50 ATF-Acetone solution. Guess what. They don't mix. Oh yes, a small percentage (very small) of the ATF mixes with the Acetone and turns it pink and cloudy and then it floats on top of the rest of the ATF.
What am I missing here, guys?

OH I forgot to tell you..you have to mix in a tablespoon of peanut butter !!!
ok.. just kidding... i mixed up a batch.. I have an in line fuel filter on my chevy truck.. never changed it in 5 years.. so was laying under the truck and could not budge it..
had to take it in.. up on a lift.. with 2 24" pipes on the wrenches for "help" it still would not budge..
squirted it with that mixture.. and it budged.. a little.. then some more... it finally came off...
I had that solution in a cheap ACE hardware squirt bottle... on the way home the bottle tipped over sideways ..not all the way just on like a 60-70 degree angle I had it inside a bucket..just in case... most of the remaining solution leaked out thru the tight cap.. it is really a slippery mixture..
Mine mixed up slick as a whistle.. don't know what you did wrong... I used regular old ACE Acetone and synthetic ATF.... ..
Sorry you couldn't make it work Zoom,
Wayne
