I am considering a scope for my .44 for IHMSA use. I want to be able to shoot both iron sights and with the scope and don't want to have to re-sight in each one when I swap. I was thinking about getting an additional shroud and mounting a scope to it in a way that leaves the rear sight untouched. Then I could simply swap the shrouds, which as we know is a quick operation, and easily shoot both within minutes.
Comments?
Anyone have specific recommendations for scope and/or mount?
Anyone have an 8" heavy shroud for a .44 for sale? Maybe even with a mount and/or scope?

My opinion... and therefore only right for me:
Tried a couple of different clamp on mounts but since I shoot some full power .44 Magnum handloads they all worked loose even with Loctite and had to be constantly checked. Finally bought a COMPLETE barrel and VH shroud set and had a Weaver style mount afixed to shroud. If I had it to do today I would probably have a picatinney rail mounted on the shroud to increase the mounts utility - see through mounts and a light would help take care of those things that go bump in the night out here in the country.

The IHMSA Field Pistol Pacs were set up just that way. They had the basic gun with 6" shroud and iron sights, then a second shroud with Burris scope base and rings so you could mount your favorite scope. Just change shrouds, and you could shoot both Field Pistol and Field Pistol-Any Sights categories.

I am considering this product, will I be able to leave the rear sights untouched with this?

That is the mount I use and I had to LocTite the crap out of it to keep it anchored. It will completely block the rear sight rendering it useless. It has not worked loose in over 200rnds. so I'm thinking it's ok. I could only find it in black and plan on taking it off soon and doing a Cerakote flat silver refinish.
