So I picked up my pistol pack today, minus the gun which had to be jailed, and while I was there I was bitching about how hard it is to find California guns since they can't be brought into the State, and the dealer mentioned the SSE.
I was familiar with the term and concept, but last I checked into it it appeared there were not so many who were actually willing to do so in my area. Low and behold, the dealer piped up and said he takes them in, as long as the buyer comes in with tools and performs the procedure themselves and doesn't take "more than 15 minutes" to do so.
I did some searching earlier and I haven't found any good posts outlining what to do and how to do it, and I could use some pointers? I'm really interested in this, as I really need to put a little brother together to my 744 and have already acquired one stainless BA. It would be awesome to satisfy some of my from out of state, as there is a much larger pool as you all know, and they are certainly often times more reasonably priced.
Thanks in advance!

I may be wrong since laws are always changing, but... I've sent a fair share to CA, and to my knowledge they have to be shipped into the state already in SA mode. The conversion has to take place before they are shipped.
The shippers FFL must verify it is indeed SA only--then the receiving FFL also verifies it is SA only.

RON - thanks for the response, the pic, and the follow-up email! That really helps and I'll have to look a bit deeper to see how involved it is, but it looks straightforward.
SHOOT - thanks for the additional insight. That was my impression, I recall, when I first read about it and gave it consideration, but the FFL seemed to infer that he does it quite frequently so I'll have to give him a call and get some clarification.
For the mean time, I'll at least have the blue baby to get familiar with and am not in such a rush to find a 715. Good to be able to take some time and shop around.
THANKS GUYS - DW forum ROCKS!

Just to put this thread to rest... I have a dealer here in California who is willing and able to take receipt of a DW revolver and allow me to convert before putting it in jail. This is legal and acceptable from what he states and what I can determine from CalGuns. I believe it is due to the licenses that he holds... gunsmith in addition to FFL01 dealer IIRC?
I'm on the lookout for a 715 now and will give it a try.
