It was a great day; I went to the range and shot everything I had from .38, factory .357 and my own reloaded .357 and had absolutely no problems with my DW firing in single or double action!
I bought a set of springs from EWK and followed the directions on this forum called Tuning up your 15-2 – The Average Joe method. Many thanks to Shoot for laying out the procedures so clearly.
A little history; I bought this weapon back in ’79 and for many years it was my ‘go to’ gun. But I started leaning towards the 1911
platform and about that same time started to have problems with light
strikes. So it went into the safe and not thought about for some time. After a number of years I bought a S&W for the wife and took it to a gunsmith for
an action job just because I knew after owning a DW that there was no way a revolver should feel this bad. He did a great job and the S&W felt like a new upgraded weapon. So I was thinking about the DW and took that
to him. He kept it and looked it over and decided he could do an action job on this also. I got it back and a trip to the range showed that although it was better I still had a problem. He got it back and worked on it some more and when I picked it up he said that there was nothing else he could do.
With new springs in, I can actually feel the work that was done with the action job. Not only that but by taking the DW apart and working on it myself I can see what the gunsmith did and see that he did quite a bit of work on the action itself. I guess the bottom line is to make sure a revolver is working properly prior to thinking about such things as an action job.
Sorry for the lengthy post; I’m just so happy that this worked out so good! I know ‘pictures’!! I’ll clean it up and post some. It’s a well worn pistol and I’m proud to own it!
