Here is the latest on my optic issues.  I sent the 2X scope off to Burris for evaluation / repair.  They responded it was not repairable and replaced it under warranty.  I was not expecting this so big shout out to Burris!  While this was in progress, I mounted a Tasco 3X Silhouette and it turns out this thing also has severe internal issues.  Tasco / Simmons will not touch anything this old and the two repair shops they recommended will not touch a Tasco.  Further research located a shop that will attempt a repair but I can't justify the total cost.

Anyway, the new scope is mounted and ready to go.  I hope to get to the range tonight and check some reloads.

Definitely keep us updated on outcome.  And a pic of it with the scope.

Here is a picture of the new scope, rings, and mount.  The rings are overkill but nothing is going to move!  I ran several bullet and powder combinations through the gun to wring out the scope.  Nothing spectacular to report but all groups are vastly improved with the new glass.

Overkill is my middle name, I love it.  Thanks for the pic.

I found a B-Square copy of a scope mount with a set screw fore and aft, and Weaver rings.  I mounted it as far back as I could to keep it from being nose heavy.  The scope is an old Simmons 2X.  I hope to sight it in next week.  Mounted on an 8” 715 if we’re keeping score.

Nice. You get that mount on eBay? I tried one of those and it wouldn’t fit my 8 inch 357 shroud. But would fit my 6 inch. It was weird. And it would mar the rib so I ditched it for the drill n tap mount from DW

Yes eBay.  So far it locks up on the 8” barrel.  I’ll reevaluate after I fire it.

I got one of these off ebay and the slots were out of spec.  Only .144 wide and when they are supposed to be at least .149 wide and therefore a weaver crosbolt won't fit.

Does this require removing the rear sight to mount the rail?

It sure looks like the rear sight is removed under a closer zoomed in view.
