We are only talking .11 of an inch so it all looks do able all that would be needed is a modified cyl. which would have to be done at Dan Wesson for proper fit and timeing. Other guns listed as .454 C suggest that the gun will also shoot the 45 L.C. I believe the .460 DW will handle all three .460, 454C and the 45 L.C.
I don't think there is a issue with the D.W. as far as strength goes. I might even consider a shroud to match the caliber, down the road. maybe ( EWK) Eric will have some input .
It might even have a unfluted cyl.

If you want to make this conversion why not simply have your 45 Colt chambers recut to 454? The difference is, basically, in case length and powder charge. Much easier and could be done locally, with the added advantage of not having to change cylinders to change calibers.
Just a thought.

that would be the least expensive way to go. ( I sure like the looks of Jody's unfluted 745 LC). The only thing about another .454C cylinder is to keep the original in stock form and not having it modified for future resale value. As for the shroud being relabeled to match the .454C that would also help to hold the value as a possible home grown pistol pack in 45 caliber.

Pops, that would be a cool conversion to do. I have always wondered why Dan Wesson never made a revolver in the 454 Casull. I do not have a 45LC, but I am not sure if the cylinder is barely long enough for the overall length of the Casull round. An email to Keith Lawton at CZ-Dan Wesson will find out.
The S&W 460 will chamber the 45LC, 454 Casull and 460S&W magnum, but the Dan Wesson 460Rowland chambers 45auto, 45Winmag, and 460 Rowland.

Other than the "I just want to" (which is perfectly fine for me) answer, why not just reload to +P for the 45 LC? It is only about 300-500fps slower, depending on the projectile, than the 454 but I guarantee the critters won't know that.

All this talk of .45lc madw me go look at my blue 45lc to convince myself it had been fired and I should have fun with it. Nope, that baby has never been shot , even at the factory as far as I can tell. I've been buying ammo for it though because without ammo its just a paperweight. Might have to buy one that's been used. Can't hurt to have two can it?

I don't know about that. I'm pretty sure they have to test fire each gun at the factory, so they can sign it off as a "working gun" before they ship it. However, firing one or two rounds at the factory will still leave the gun looking virtually unfired.
Regarding the original topic, see if DW will make you a custom unfluted cylinder chambered for the .454, that would be cool! They may even be able to roll mark the cylinder as .454 like Ruger does with theirs.
Hi guys,
Doesn't this sound kinda dangerous to anyone but me? Like rechambering a 38 special to take longer 357 cases. What am I missing?
The 454 brass takes the small rifle primers instead of the large pistol of the 45 colt, maybe that's a plus. Still, having the potential of a 65000psi round loaded into a gun designed to shoot a 14000 psi round sounds like a bad idea.

Interesting topic. I must confess I was not really aware there was a DW in 45 Colt. That might just be the most desirable gun i have EVER heard about. I've been holding out for a Freedom Arms model 97 in 45 Colt, but a Dan Wesson, in my favorite cartridge!!!
Did they come in blue as well as SS? And, most importantly, how often do they come available? Is this a see it once a month sort of deal, or see it once in a lifetime sort of thing?

Dans have even less of an issue with the brass being overworked. My 45 and 745 measure .450" at the throats with the chambers measuring .480" at the case mouth area, .484" at the web. All measurements taken with a pin gauge.
