Unusual, but not to bad. Slots in the butt to lower the Oak weight or ornament? Forearm looks really good to be Plywood.
Ese,, the slots are to alter the balance point, yes. Without the slots, it would be real heavy.
(The style also matches my crossbow stock.)
Balance will be finalized after I pick a barrel.
But the top slot (inside the montecarlo), is also to insert the 6" bolt towards the receiver, and the socket and extension towards the butt, through the stock, and onto the socket/hex handle.
The "REAL" furniture will be carved from local black walnut, the toe will be cut at least 3/4" higher ( more if i can stand it).
Again, I have left everything oversized on it, until I can actually try it. Comb is as parallel as possible, and will come down at least .25" before completion.
Cant and toe-out are already both carved into the stock. Grain is inline with recoil, but the pad is offset, and angled. So, there is a slight ' twist at the wrist' incorporated into it, so I do nothave to waste time steaming it later.

Getting a little off topic, how about if we take the 870 discussion to Here
Steve
I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman "Were is the Self Help Section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.

RANGE REPORT!
Other than blowin through a 40 dollar box of 100ct. Win/White 38 specials, I had as much fun as blowing through a 100ct. Box of 38 specials!
That was fun. I had my 6" xtraheavy, and my std/vent 8" DAN factory. Both were great - solid, and steady. Both were comparable, and comfortable. Just 'point, click, and ship', as FedEx used to say.
Compared to my friends 9mm semi that barked and jumped all over the place (like a caffeinated circus chihuahua), mine just sat there like a mature retriever by the fireplace. (Except for that part about blasting the CRAP out of my targets, heh.)
What a wonderful use of steel.
Grips are to follow.

Yes, I finally had to clean my Dans!
as far as what's next, I would love a 22, a 44, one of the new stainless 7's or anything I can get my hands on. But, they seem to have already doubled in price since I bought mine.
Also, I am in the middle of 3 stockwork projects, and the grips for these guys. And there is an 80% ar lower that is burning a hole in my patience! (its getting wood on it, too)
First thing I am working on this evening, is my 4" shroud. I want to compare the 6 and 4. So its time to register and drill for the alignment pin. Then I am off to the races again.
Thanks guys, for the support.
