Just finished loading up a couple of boxes of .41 Special and was wondering if any other Forum members load this round? Works well for me on plinking and small game but I'm always on the lookout for new load data.

I have a .41 mag DW.  I have always wanted the .41 magnum. The ammo is expensive. I am interested in the .41 special ammo. I guess it's still a wild cat you have to make your own. I have read a lot of good reports on the .41 special. What loads did you make?

If I want knockdown I shoot magnum, the Specials are just plinking or small game. My goal is to approximate .45 ACP target loads - 850 to 900 fps with cheap cast bullets. Cases trimed to same length as a .44 Special. Components depend on what I have on the shelf. Lately I load 5.5 grains Unique or 5.0 grains of Bullseye under a 215 grain SWC. No chronograph but these feel about right. Next time I buy bullets I'll get 200 grain for this application.

Given the size and weight of the weapon the feel is comparable to .38 Special target loads. Very accurate and death on rabbits.

I would like to shoot a few rounds of those. I guess I need to buy me a .41 magnum die. There should be plenty out there. Thanks for the information.

Stay away from Lee dies. Fine for magnums but can't shorten them up enough to expand the special mouth. I picked up a set of Hornady's that work well either configuration.
