If I want knockdown I shoot magnum, the Specials are just plinking or small game. My goal is to approximate .45 ACP target loads - 850 to 900 fps with cheap cast bullets. Cases trimed to same length as a .44 Special. Components depend on what I have on the shelf. Lately I load 5.5 grains Unique or 5.0 grains of Bullseye under a 215 grain SWC. No chronograph but these feel about right. Next time I buy bullets I'll get 200 grain for this application.
Given the size and weight of the weapon the feel is comparable to .38 Special target loads. Very accurate and death on rabbits.
