If you make the barrel closer to .005 than .006 is that a problem? This has probably been asked before but not by me, so you experts what is the truth. I don't have the original feeler so I'm using a set I had.

As long as the cylinder doesn't bind, I would think you can run under .006" without any problem- after all, .002" is spec for the 357 Supermag. I am sure that someone with more knowledge will correct me if I am mistaken.

My .002 gauge won't fit in the headspace on my FA .500WE.  According to FA, the only real concern regarding a very small headspace is that a gun that is not cleaned meticulously wil start to bind when it gets dirty enough.  Now, if you're going to run 500 (100?) rounds through the gun in an afternoon, you may have to do some light cleaning during the course of the day.

Yep, a feeler is a feeler & .002 -.003 is fine, given the caveats already mentioned.

One of the articles recounts that Dan Wesson (himself) preferred that spec., but that they spec'd out the commercial product with a .006 gauge so the average shooter would not encounter problems.

You need to "tend to 'em" at .002!

You should also check the gap on all the cylinders, when closer than .006, they can have as much as a .002 difference on the face of the cylinder on many guns before Norwich.  They were milled in the soft then hardened and the process can cause a minor distortion of the cylinder.  Norwich did finish milling after hardening to insure a flat cylinder face.  Some of the early manuals stated to set the gap on the tightest cylinder.

According to all the info I have in my .375 manuals and an email from CZ "Genny" the .375 is the only one of the Supermags that is supposed to be set at .006.

Thanks all, I think I'd rather have it set a little tight..006 just seems like a lot of daylight through there.Confused
