Went to visit my friend's farm to shoot and thought (about 3/4 the way there) that I should use this opportunity to do a range report. But I forgot my camera...
Ammo Used = WWB 130gr .38 Special FMJ, Remington UMC .357 Magnum JSP, and assorted hand loads
Targets used = Child-sized mannequins (don't ask), Plastic Army men
Long story short: It's a tack driver (no surprise there)
We didn't really measure our groups (no ruler or tape measure on hand), but the biggest one was about 6.5" (compared to the length of the barrel) at 75 yards firing .357 double action, off hand.
On the bench (read as "fence post") we were getting quarter sized groups out to about 40 yards with both .38 and .357
We were feeling pretty good by then, so we set up 30 army men along the fence and shot at them off-hand at 20 yards. Went pretty well. I used 26 shots to get 15 of em' while my bud got the other 15 in 20.
If I had 20 dollars for every time I've been held at knifepoint, I wouldn't have been stabbed by that guy for not having any money.

You have now used your allotted fun for the year. Please remit your DW to me for immediate inspection and range report… send the army men.
Love it… now thats living!

I meant that the quality of the range report itself was crappy due to lack of photos and actual measurements, not the range trip.
I just sort of went out there to have fun. The range report idea didn't hit me until I was already on the road and, to be honest, I kind of forgot about it by the time I was there. I didn't remember until we were already out on the property (and nearly half a mile from the actual house where any measuring tools would be) so we estimated our groups using the 6" barrel of the DW itself and our pocket change (hence "quarter-sized").
BTW, it's a very solid fence post that has concrete around the base and a notch cut out of the top specifically for shooting.

That's the whole point. The idea of giving a detailed and informative range report is really an excuse to talk about how much fun we had. I I mean provide valuable info for research and development. That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

That reminds me of when I was a kid. We use to shoot little army type soldiers because they were cheap. That's excellent shooting you guys did. I recently bought a new video cam and forgot it when I went shooting. I'm going to do like Waderman and shoot some produce and film it. The newer video cams let you freeze your videos and snap jpeg pictures from your film.

HD,
Glad you had a good time. That's good shooting. (I will use this as an excuse for a range trip. I need more practice. )
Pretty inventive idea on the army men. Hmmm? I use to have some plastic dinosaur toys when I was a kid. I wonder if my wife can find some at a garage sale. I could go big game hunting.

The best kind of Range Report is that you had fun and hit your targets.
"Quarter size " groups at 40 yards from a rest? Yeah, it's a Dan Wesson!
I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman "Were is the Self Help Section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.

Thanks for the idea Gary ! I've got 3 chains hanging off side target
and was using golf balls and then falling walnuts the last couple months.
Wonder If I could find some little minature Taliban figures.....I'm
not picky...full size one's would work too

Imagine the groups we'd have got with a 10" VH barrel instead of the 6" basic one.
It'd probably look like we hit it once and missed the rest.

HD,
No range report is crappy, at least you got to go shooting. Something htat evades me these days. Great that you were able to share your fun with a Dan. I do remember a few years ago my sons and I had obtained a few free "bobbleheads" figurines at a ball game. They made great shooting targets ! Sounds like your Dan was performing like it should, well above my ability.

Thanks for the report and the target Ideas !!!!! Now I gotta ask ( Child-sized mannequins) where did you find these! I use anything that can be destroyed, found old cordless phones and ink cartridges make for fun shooting! (on the phones remove batteries and recycle). Picked up some pieces of PEC or pe (poly ethylene chloride) pipe cut offs from the local gas company 4" dia, great fun as it hung from a wire. I figure shoot what ya got and make it dance!

Mannequins were purchased from a liquidation of some childrens clothing store that went under at $10 a piece. An excellent deal considering mannequins usually run in the $100s.
